Mother's Day Skype call!

About our Mother’s day Skype call, it was so wonderful to see our son! He is healthy, fine, happy and enjoys serving the people of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The cold arrived there. He was having trouble speaking Portuguese mixed with Spanish, because we were also connected to grandma Emilia and aunt Camila in Brazil, so we decided to talk in English.  He was so happy to see grandma!

He showed us his St Pablo ring he got as a gift and a watch he bought, and he was eating this dessert the entire time.

Grandma told him she found the triple combination scriptures in a red case and he asked her to save there for him. She also asked him if he had a dictionary Portuguese-Spanish and he has one.

Other things we talked about:

• He is currently sleeping on the floor. His companion has back problems and the mission brought him a new bed, and the bunk bed didn’t fit on top of it, so Elder Ayres needed to put his mattress in the floor. He said so far there were no cockroaches climbing it!
• Their branch had a chapel, but now it’s more like a home. The attendance is around 65 people every Sunday.
• He loves the people he teaches, and they are always giving blessings at their request. 
• They are always asking to see pictures of their families.
• They live right now in a house, and in a month or so, the missionaries in that area will move to a member's house that is bigger and safer.
• He thinks he will be transferred in the upcoming transfer and he said he is ready to move on to another area. 
• The families in the Ward are nice, some couples have a few problems, but in general they are good members.
• This was a really good week. They had a baptism on Tuesday and were able to go to the temple in Buenos Aires on Wednesday. He wanted me to remind him how we say Wednesday in Portuguese, and he taught me how to say it in Spanish (Miercoles).
• He showed us his agenda. He got some pictures of Christ and some Minions stickers from investigators and it was really neat how organized and thoroughly he is doing his daily planning.  He also learned to track time on how long he spends in each task. He is saving all of his agendas, so he can tell us later about what his days were like.
• He talked with great love and excitement about David, the baptism they had a few weeks ago. He is a great convert, has received his Priesthood and is progressing exponentially. Elder Ayres gave him a new Bible and a triple combination, and he just end up reading the old testament. Our Elder said he will be a great leader someday.
• The food he likes most is the food he eats in the families’ homes from Bolivia, Paraguay and Peru. His favorite foods are arroz chaufa, and lomo saltado, both Peruvian traditional cuisine, made with strips of meat, chicken or lamb with sweet peppers and onions, French fries and rice. The nicest people he met so far are also from Peru, Bolivia and Paraguay.
• His feet are okay, he said they get calluses but they are fine. This is the only thing he wanted to tell me.
• About the bad stuff that happened to him since our Christmas call, he said he would tell just this: A guy ran after them with a Taser, other drunk threw broken bottles at them, and they were even thrown rocks. I asked if they ever got to hurt them, he didn’t want to tell us. They have a lot of stray dogs and he is being careful with them and fortunately, so far, didn’t get bit like many of the other missionaries have.
• He said the markets there are pretty close to what we have here in U.S.; he can get groceries and fresh vegetables and fruits and they have a lot of Carrefour’s, but they don’t have cheese bread. They are expensive and most of their dinners are from members.
• He talks to his companion about everything, and most of their time they are studying or planning for the day. Their relationship is fine and they work well together.
• Three things he learned in his mission so far: to be more patient, to be organized and track his time, and he also developed a testimony that a missionary is meant to be where he is and to teach some people.
• He said they do everything the same every day, so the secret is to find ways to be more effective and develop skills to find joy and innovate in what they do every day.
• We talked extensively about Star Wars!!! He is excited to watch it after he comes home and didn't want us to spoil any details. He also asked about LeBron James and all the NBA stuff.
• We also talked briefly about plans for school and work, also other plans for his future, although we agreed he needs to focus only on his mission at the moment.
• We went around the house with the laptop and outside; he wanted to see home, the green of Spring, Ice Stein and all the bedrooms. He said he miss home and learned how to cope with the "saudade” well.

In the end, he asked us to open our scriptures in Moses 7:29-35. He taught us that Enoch asked the Lord why He was crying about that one person that was sinning if everything else was going well, and the Lord answered telling Enoch about when He created them and the respect for their agency. He said that what is incredible about this is how the Lord loves us, wants us back but respects our agency, and that is what they do as missionaries as well. Sometimes, it makes them sad wonderful people, even after having the confirmation of the Spirit, still decide to not get into the baptism waters.

Then he shared with us his testimony. We shared ours and later our farewells.

Pics 1 to 11 - Pictures from the baptism of Santiago Pacheco on Tuesday night! From now on we will have our baptisms on Saturday, so the confirmations can be done the next day on Sundays in Sacrament Meeting.

Pic 12  - We went to the temple on Wednesday! We had to wake up at 4:30am so we could all get in a van to go to the temple! It was great!

Sobre a chamada Skype neste Dia das Mães, foi tão maravilhoso ver nosso filho! Ele esta saudável, bem, feliz e gosta de servir o povo de Buenos Aires, Argentina. 

O frio já chegou lá. Ele estava tendo dificuldade para falar e misturando Português com o Espanhol, porque nós também estavamos conectados com a avó Emilia e a tia Camila no Brasil, por isso decidimos falar em Inglês. Ele estava tão feliz de ver a avó e a tia! 

Ele nos mostrou seu anel de San Pablo que ganhou e um relógio de pulso que comprou, e ele estava comendo esta sobremesa folhada o tempo todo. 

A avó disse-lhe que ela encontrou as escrituras vermelhas que ele lhe pediu, e ele pediu a ela para guardar lá para ele. Ela também perguntou se ele tinha um dicionário Português-Espanhol e ele tem um.  

Outras coisas que falamos:

• Atualmente, ele está dormindo no chão. Seu companheiro tem problemas nas costas e a missão trouxe uma nova cama pra ele, e a beliche que tinham não se encaixava em cima da nova cama, então Elder Ayres precisou colocar seu colchão no chão. Ele disse que até agora não teve baratas subindo nele!
• Seu ramo tinha uma capela, mas agora é mais como uma casa. A frequencia é de cerca de 65 pessoas todos os domingos.
• Ele ama as pessoas que ele ensina, e eles estão sempre dando bênçãos a seu pedido.
• Os investigafores tambem estão sempre pedindo para ver fotos de suas famílias.
• Eles vivem agora em uma casa e em um mês mais ou menos, os missionários nessa área mudarao para a casa de um membro que é maior e mais segura.
• Ele acha que ele será transferido na próxima transferência e ele disse que está pronto para mudar para outra área.
• As famílias da ala são boas, alguns casais têm alguns problemas, mas em geral eles são bons membros.
• Esta foi realmente uma boa semana. Eles tiveram um batismo na terça-feira e foram capazes de ir ao templo em Buenos Aires na quarta-feira. Ele queria que eu o lembrasse como dizemos quarta-feira em Português, e ele me ensinou como dizê-lo em espanhol (Miercoles).
• Ele nos mostrou a sua agenda. Ele tem algumas figuras de Cristo e alguns Minions adesivos de investigadores e tudo estava realmente organizado e foi muito bom ver como ele está planejando seu dia. Ele também aprendeu a gerenciar o tempo. Ele está salvando todas as suas agendas, para que ele possa nos contar mais tarde sobre como seus dias eram como um missionario de tempo integral.
• Ele falou com muito amor e entusiasmo sobre David, o batismo que tiveram há algumas semanas. Ele é um grande converso, recebeu seu sacerdócio e está a progredir de forma exponencial. Elder Ayres deu-lhe uma nova Bíblia e uma combinação tripla, e ele ja acabou de ler o Velho Testamento pois nunca o tinha lido. Nosso Elder disse que ele vai ser um grande líder um dia.
• A comida que ele mais gosta é a comida que ele come em casas das famílias da Bolívia, Paraguai e Peru. Suas comidas favoritas são arroz chaufa arroz e lomo saltado, ambos da cozinha tradicional peruana, feitos com tiras de carne, frango ou cordeiro com pimentões e cebolas, batatas fritas e arroz. As melhores pessoas que ele conheceu até agora também são de Peru, Bolívia e Paraguai.
• Seus pés estão bem, ele disse que eles sempre tem calos, mas eles estão bem. Esta é a única coisa que ele queria me dizer.
• Sobre coisas ruins que aconteceram com ele desde a nossa ligacao no Natal, ele disse que iria dizer apenas isto: Um cara correu atrás deles com um Taser, outro bêbado jogou garrafas quebradas neles, e eles foram até mesmo apedrejados. Eu perguntei se tudo isso chegou a machucá-los, e ele não queria nos contar. Eles têm um monte de cães vira-latas nas ruas e ele está tomando cuidado com eles e, felizmente, até agora, não foi mordido como muitos dos outros missionários. 
• Ele disse que os mercados de la são parecidos com o que temos aqui nos EUA; ele pode obter mantimentos e frutas e legumes frescos e eles têm um monte de Carrefourr, mas eles não têm pão de queijo. As coisas são caras e a maioria dos seus jantares são nas casas dos membros.
• Ele conversa com seu companheiro sobre tudo, e maior parte do tempo eles estão estudando ou planejando o dia. O relacionamento deles é bom e eles trabalham bem juntos.
• Três coisas que ele aprendeu em sua missão até agora: 1. Ser mais paciente; 2. Ser organizado e controlar seu tempo, e 3. Ele também desenvolveu um testemunho de que um missionário é chamado onde ele está e para ensinar especificamente algumas pessoas.
• Ele disse que eles fazem a mesma coisa todos os dias, então o segredo é encontrar maneiras de ser mais eficaz e motivado e desenvolver habilidades para encontrar alegria e inovar no que eles fazem todos os dias.
• Nós conversamos muito sobre Star Wars!!! Ele está animado para assistir o filme depois que voltar e não quis que contassemos quaisquer detalhes e estragassemos a surpresa. Ele também perguntou sobre LeBron James e todas as coisas sobre o basquete da NBA.
• Nós também falamos brevemente sobre os planos para a escola e o trabalho, e também outros planos para o seu futuro, embora tenhamos concordado que ele focasse somente em sua missao por agora.
• Nós fomos ao redor da casa com o laptop inclusive la fora; ele queria ver a casa, o verde da Primavera, Ice Stein e todos os quartos. Ele disse que sente falta de casa e aprendeu a lidar com a "saudade" também.
  

No final, ele nos pediu para abrir nossas escrituras em Moisés 7:29-35. Ele nos ensinou que Enoque perguntou ao Senhor por que Ele estava chorando sobre aquela pessoa que estava pecando se tudo estava indo bem, e o Senhor respondeu dizendo a Enoque sobre quando os criou e o respeito por seu arbitrio. Ele disse que o que é incrível sobre isso é como o Senhor nos ama e nos quer de volta, mas respeita nosso arbitrio, e isso é o que fazem como missionarios. Ele disse que ele sofre com pessoas maravilhosas, que mesmo apos receber a confirmacao do Espirito, resolvem nao entrar nas aguas do batismo. 


Então ele compartilhou conosco seu testemunho, nós compartilhamos o nosso e depois nossas despedidas.
