May!

Hello!

This week just seemed to fly by for me. I don’t even remember much of what happened, but it was great. We had 2 baptisms for this last weekend but lots of complicated things happened this week and it didn’t happen, but we are going to have one baptism tomorrow and the other one within the next 2 weeks, so that’s sweet.

We still have no idea what will happen on Mother’s day, but we will figure it out. In our area we don’t really have any members with a lot of stuff so we will see. We will get to send you a message this week about it.

I heard about how some scriptures in Portuguese come with like a red case. I think it’s a red leather outside thing. It sounds super sweet, and I think it’s a triple combination too (with the Book of Mormon, D&C, and the Pearl of Great Price) but yeah so I don’t know if those actually exist... but I think that would be awesome.

Thanks for all the prayers! We are doing alright. If anything I would love you guys to focus on 3 of our investigators: Gonzalo y Jessica (they are trying to get married so they can get baptized), and also Jesus Sanchez (he is trying to stop smoking), so thanks! :)

Well, we didn’t really have that big of miracles this week apart from we finally got to talk to our Ward mission leader after like a month of trying to talk to him!

Here in Torcuato we have a Rama (branch), and the branch president is called Marcelo Guevara. 

I love this quote from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland talk:

"First of all, if in the days ahead you not only see limitations in those around you but also find elements in your own life that don’t yet measure up to the messages you have heard this weekend, please don’t be cast down in spirit and don’t give up. The gospel, the Church, and these wonderful semiannual gatherings are intended to give hope and inspiration. They are not intended to discourage you. Only the adversary, the enemy of us all, would try to convince us that the ideals outlined in general conference are depressing and unrealistic, that people don’t really improve, that no one really progresses. And why does Lucifer give that speech? Because he knows he can’t improve, he can’t progress, that worlds without end he will never have a bright tomorrow. He is a miserable man bound by eternal limitations, and he wants you to be miserable too. Well, don’t fall for that. With the gift of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the strength of heaven to help us, we can improve, and the great thing about the gospel is we get credit for trying, even if we don’t always succeed. Please remember tomorrow, and all the days after that, that the Lord blesses those who want to improve, who accept the need for commandments and try to keep them, who cherish Christ like virtues and strive to the best of their ability to acquire them. If you stumble in that pursuit, so does everyone; the Savior is there to help you keep going. If you fall, summon His strength. Call out like Alma, “O Jesus, … have mercy on me.”7 He will help you get back up. He will help you repent, repair, fix whatever you have to fix, and keep going. Soon enough you will have the success you seek."

Oh and one more thing! David, our baptism last month! He got the Priesthood yesterday!!! So awesome!!!

Pics 1 and 2 – These are me just studying in the mornings, marking my scriptures, in the cold!! It was really cold this week!

Pics 5 and 6 - So we went to go clean the baptismal fount this weekend because we thought we had a baptism, and we found this huge cockroach and spider there! I didn’t take more pictures but there was one more cockroach and, like, 4 more spiders that were just huge!

Pics 7 and 8 - This is us at our investigator’s house while he was getting his entrevista. Right after we went to eat with a Peruvian family and they made us great food!

Pics 9 and 10 - Today as a zone we made something that’s called arroz chaufa! It’s from Peru and it’s super good! It’s rice with a bunch of soy sauce, meat, chicken, and vegetables! It was really good!

Pic 11 - So this last one was funny. Me and my companion got home one night and we were super tired. We went to the kitchen to warm up some water so we could make some tea (mate cocido), so we put the water on, then went to plan, and we forgot about it until like 10:20pm when we walked in the kitchen and we saw this! We were so tired that we forgot to put it on the flame! It was super funny in the moment. :)

Esta semana parece que voou para mim. Eu nem me lembro muito do que aconteceu, mas foi ótimo. Deveriamos ter tido 2 batismos neste último fim de semana, mas muitas coisas complicadas aconteceram, entao teremos um batismo amanhã e o outro nas próximas 2 semanas, de modo que é muito legal. 

Ainda não temos ideia do que vai acontecer no Dia das Mães, mas vamos descobrir. Na nossa área nós realmente não temos nenhum membro com um computador disponivel por isso vamos ver ainda como vai ser. Vou enviar-lhe uma mensagem esta semana sobre o assunto. 

Eu ouvi que saiu uma escritura em Português que vem com como uma capa vermelha. Eu acho que é de couro vermelho. Parece super doce, e eu acho que é uma combinação triplice também (com o Livro de Mórmon, D & C e Pérola de Grande Valor), mas como eu não sei se isso realmente existe, perguntei para a vo... mas eu acho que seria impressionante. 

Obrigado por todas as orações! Estamos fazendo tudo certo. Se eu puder pedir qualquer coisa a vocês eh que possam se concentrar em 3 de nossos investigadores: Gonzalo y Jessica (eles estão tentando se casar para que eles possam ser batizados), e também Jesus Sanchez (ele está tentando parar de fumar), por isso obrigado! :) 

Bem, nós realmente não têm tão grande de milagres esta semana além de nós finalmente termos conseguido falar com o nosso líder da missão da ala, depois de um mês tentando falar com ele!Aqui em Torcuato temos um Ramo, e o presidente do ramo é chamado Marcelo Guevara. 

Eu amo esta citação do discurso de Élder Jeffrey R. Holland: 

"Primeiro de tudo, se nos próximos dias você ver só limitações ao seu redor, e também encontrar elementos em sua própria vida que ainda precisa melhorar e lhe faz achar que as mensagens que você ouviu neste fim de semana sao dificeis de cumprir, por favor, não coloque o Espírito de lado e não desista. O evangelho, a Igreja, e estas reuniões semestrais maravilhosas são destinadas a dar esperança e inspiração. Eles não são destinadas a desencorajá-lo. Só o adversário, o inimigo de todos nós, tentaria convencer-nos que os ideais descritos na Conferência Geral são deprimentes e irrealistas, que as pessoas realmente não melhoram, que ninguém realmente progride. E por que Lúcifer vive a dar esse discurso? Porque ele sabe que não pode melhorar, ele não pode progredir, em mundos sem fim ele nunca terá um futuro brilhante. Ele é um homem miserável preso por limitações eternas, e ele quer que você seja infeliz também. Bem, não caia nessa. Com o dom da Expiação de Jesus Cristo e a força dos céus para nos ajudar, podemos melhorar, e a grande coisa sobre o Evangelho é que obtemos crédito somente ao tentarmos, mesmo que nem sempre consigamos. Por favor, lembre-se amanhã, e todos os dias depois disso, que o Senhor abençoa aqueles que querem melhorar, que aceitam a necessidade de mandamentos e tentam mantê-los, que prezam a Cristo e Suas virtudes e se esforçam para o melhor de sua capacidade de adquiri-las. Se você tropeçar devido a perseguição, o mesmo acontece com todos; o Salvador estará lá para ajudá-lo a continuar. Se você cair, invoque a Sua força. Clame-O como Alma: "Ó Jesus, ... tem misericórdia de mim."  Ele irá ajudá-lo a erguer-se novamente. Ele irá ajudá-lo a se arrepender, reparar e corrigir o que você tem que corrigir, e continuar. Em breve você terá o sucesso que você procura."

Ah, e mais uma coisa! David, nosso batismo no mês passado! Ele recebeu o Sacerdócio ontem!!! Tão legal!!!

Fotos 5 e 6 - Então nós fomos limpar a fonte batismal neste fim de semana, porque nós pensamos que teriamos um batismo, e encontramos essa enorme barata e aranha lá! Eu não tirei mais fotos, mas não havia mais de uma barata e, mas mais 4 aranhas que eram enormes! 

Fotos 7 e 8 - Estas somos de nos na casa de nosso investigador, enquanto ele estava recebendo a sua entrevista. Logo depois fomos comer com uma família peruana que nos preparam muito boa comida! 

Fotos 9 e 10 - Hoje como zona fizemos algo que é chamado de arroz chaufa! É do Peru e é super bom! É o arroz com um monte de molho de soja, carne, frango e legumes! Foi muito bom! 

Foto 11 - Esta última foi engraçado. Eu e meu companheiro chegamos em casa uma noite e estávamos super cansados. Fomos para a cozinha para aquecer um pouco de água para que pudéssemos fazer um pouco de chá (Mate cozido), por isso, colocamos a água na leiteira, depois fomos planejar nosso dia seguinte, e nós esqueceu sobre a agua até tipo 22:20 da noite quando entramos na cozinha e vimos isso! Estávamos tão cansados ​​que nos esquecemos de colocá-la sobre a chama! Foi super engraçado no momento. :)
