Fourth week. One month in the MTC!

Hello!

I'm doing pretty good here at the MTC. We just got done playing basketball for hours so we are super tired, but I will write now and tell what I found out this week.

I'm getting my travel plans this Friday! I also asked about my visa and they said everything is good! I just have to go with both my passports and everything should be fine.

This week I was reading in D&C 6:33-37 and I love these scriptures, because being a missionary is hard, some days you seriously have everything, the powers of earth and hell against you. but what's amazing is that I'm on the Lords side, the best side there is and He will never lose! Sure I know it's going to be hard and I can already tell that it is, but we will never lose which is a good comforting feeling. 

It's awesome how the Atonement is everywhere in the Book of Mormon too! Since I got here I've been reading it again and I'm in Helaman right now. The Atonement is so powerful and it's mentioned a lot in the Book of Mormon.

Another scripture I've studied is Romans 8:38-39. The love God and our Savior has for us is unending! It's amazing to know that, no matter what happens, He will never stop loving us. I know that He is always with us and we can rely on him for anything in our lives. but sometimes He gives us tests of faith. 

This week we compared the story in Matthew when Jesus and Peter walk in the water with Joseph Smith's first vision. Peter was tempted by the waves and the winds which could represent Satan. and Joseph Smith, right before he saw our Heavenly Father and Jesus, was tempted by the devil. We see that happened in both stories, and also in many other stories, God saves us right before we feel like we can't take it anymore. He always has, we just need to follow the trail of faith some times, because just like in the story with Peter walking on the water, Matthew 14:23-33, in verse 25 it says He came in the 4th watch. which is the last watch of the night, which was from 3 to 6:00 AM. He always comes in the end. 

I know that our Savior will always save us. No matter what it is, He has given us an option through his Atonement. so that all men might be saved! 

I love this Gospel and it's kinda weird thinking I only have 23 months left.

(Quarta semana. Um mês no CTM!

Olá!

Eu estou muito bem aqui no CTM.  Nós acabamos de jogar basquete por horas, então estamos super cansados, mas eu irei escrever agora e contar o que eu descobri essa semana.

Eu saberei meus planos de viagem na sexta-feira! Eu também perguntei sobre meu visto e eles disseram que tudo está bem! Eu apenas preciso levar meus dois passaportes comigo e tudo estará em ordem.

Esta semana eu estava lendo em D&C 6:33-37 e eu amo essa escritura, porque ser um missionário é difícil, alguns dias você realmente tem tudo, as forças da terra e do inferno contra você, mas o mais incrível é que eu estou do lado do Senhor, no melhor lado que há e Ele nunca perderá! Com certeza eu sei que será difícil e posso dizer que já é, mas nós nunca perderemos, o que é um sentimento muito confortante.

É maravilhoso como a Expiação está em todo lugar no Livro de Mórmon também! Desde que cheguei aqui tenho lido novamente e já estou em Helaman agora. A Expiação é tão poderosa que é mencionada muitas vezes no Livro de Mórmon.

Outra escritura que estudei é Romanos 8:38-39. O amor que Deus e nosso Salvador têm por nós nunca acaba! É incrível saber que não importa o que aconteça, Ele nunca deixará de nos amar. Eu sei que Ele sempre estará conosco e que podemos contar com ele para qualquer coisa em nossas vidas, mas às vezes Ele nos dará testes de fé.

Esta semana nós comparamos a história em Mateus quando Jesus e Pedro caminham sobre as águas com a Primeira Visão de Joseph Smith, bem antes de ele ver nosso Pai Celestial e Jesus Cristo, onde foi tentado pelo inimigo. Pedro foi tentado pelas ondas e ventos que podem representar Satanás, e Joseph Smith, logo antes da visão do Pai e do Filho, foi tentado pelo inimigo. Nós vemos que isso aconteceu nas duas histórias e em muitas outras, Deus nos salva no momento em que vemos que não podemos mais suportar. Ele sempre o fará, nós só precisamos seguir com fé, porque, assim como na história de Pedro em Mateus 14:23-33, no verso 25 diz que Ele veio na “quarta hora”, que era a última da noite, ou seja, em torno de 3 a 6 da manhã. Ele sempre vem no final.

Eu sei que nosso Salvador sempre nos salvará. Não importa o que seja, Ele nos dá sempre uma opção através da Expiação, e todos os homens serão salvos!

Eu amo este Evangelho e é estranho pensar que só tenho 23 meses.

Third week: Almost a month!

Hello! 

I'm doing pretty good this week! 

Thanks for the packages, I love all of them! 

This past week has been great! We are currently teaching 4 investigators! Eric, Rodrigo, Areli, and Alan! We've gotten all 4 of them to commit to baptism already! Now we're teaching about all the deeper stuff like the Word of Wisdom, Plan of Salvation, etc. It's so exciting when you get that "Yes"! 

Something I've definitely learned is that baptism isn't enough. It's the start, but not the end. Conversion is way more important. My branch president said, "Someone can be converted to the Gospel and still not be baptized because of... ( whatever reason)". I think that is totally true! My goal as a missionary is to convert! I know the most important convert on my mission is going to be me. There is no way to teach Salvation and other doctrines if I will not be living all of it myself! That is the way it is for all of us.

My Spanish is coming along pretty well. Sometimes, it's just a little frustrating because Portuguese and Spanish are so similar, and some meanings are completely different! This week we went into this Portuguese speaking class. One of my friends in my district here, Elder Sears, has an older brother that teaches Portuguese at the MTC so we went to talk to him and he asked me to bear my testimony, and it was hard because I've been speaking Spanish for so long and I struggled! 

Another awesome thing we did last week was this activity called "Member TRC". It's when we get to talk to members and teach them in Spanish. (If you haven't understood it yet, everything we do is in Spanish!) On this day, we got to teach members, and it was such a change from teaching an investigator. My favorite part was listening to their testimonies and experiences, but me and Elder Yeoman were assigned to go and talk to these two ladies, a mother and a daughter, which were both from Buenos Aires, Argentina!!! It was SO sweet!! When I told her I was originally born in Brazil and grew up and became a citizen here in U.S..... hahahaha she laughed so hard! She also wished me good luck because "we suppose to not like each other!" haha I bet everything is going to be alright tho!

We also ran into a teacher here that went to my mission and came back last February. He said it is the best mission there is! We even took a picture together, and I think he might put it on the mission's Facebook page.

Thanks for all the letters and emails and please keep sending them! Even though I can't respond to them, I love hearing about everything that is going on with you!

P.S.: Love you mom! You're awesome! Thanks for everything! I know that the power of the Holy Ghost is real. It's so strong here. When you pray for everything, that really happens, or whenever you start something, I promise you will have guidance from the Lord! I've seen it everyday here and it's really a miracle!

Third and fourth pictures are of the other people in our zone. The two sitting down are our zone leaders! The fourth has me with Elder Sears! We're pretty tight! He is the one who has a brother who teaches Portuguese here at the MTC! I love everyone in my district! We're all brothers already!

Estou super bem esta semana!

Obrigado pelas caixas. Eu amei todas elas!

Esta semana foi ótima! Nós estamos atualmente ensinando 4 investigadores! Eric, Rodrigo, Areli e Alan. Nós conseguimos fazer que todos os quatro já se comprometessem com o batismo! Agora estamos ensinando a eles doutrinas mais específicas como Palavra de Sabedoria, Plano de Salvação, etc. É um sentimento incrível quando conseguimos fazê-los dizer “Sim”!

Algo que eu aprendi definitivamente é que o batismo não é suficiente. É o começo, mas não o fim. Conversão é muito mais importante. Meu presidente do ramo disse, “Alguém pode estar convertido ao Evangelho e não ser batizado devido a... (diversas razões)”. Eu acredito que isso seja totalmente verdade! Minha meta como missionário é converter! Eu sei que o converso mais importante será eu mesmo, porque não há meios de ensinar sobre Salvação e outras doutrinas se eu não estiver vivendo-as e ter um testemunho delas. E assim é para todos nós.

Meu Espanhol está vindo muito bem. Às vezes, é um pouco frustrante porque Português e Espanhol são similares, mas com alguns significados completamente diferentes. Esta semana nós fomos nessa classe de Português – um dos meus amigos aqui, Elder Sears, tem um irmão mais velho que ensina Português aqui no CTM – e nós fomos conversar com ele, e ele me pediu para compartilhar um testemunho, e foi difícil porque como estou falando Espanhol na maior parte do tempo, e eu tive a maior dificuldade [de falar em Português]!

Outra atividade ótima que fizemos semana passada foi o que chamamos de “Membro TRC”. É quando conseguimos falar com membros e ensiná-los em Espanhol. (Só para clarificar, caso você não tenha entendido ainda, tudo o que fazemos é em Espanhol!) Nesse dia, ensinamos membros – diferente de ensinar investigadores. Minha parte favorita foi ouvir seus testemunhos e experiências. 

Eu e Elder Yeoman fomos designados para ensinar estas duas senhoras, mãe e filha, e ambas são de Buenos Aires, Argentina! Foi tão legal! Quando eu lhes contei que nasci originalmente no Brasil e, cresci aqui e me tornei cidadão dos Estados Unidos, ahahahah... ela gargalhou tanto! Ela também me desejou boa sorte porque “nós não gostamos uns dos outros [Brasileiros x Argentinos]!”. Mas eu acredito que irá ficar tudo bem.

Nós também conhecemos um professor aqui que retornou de minha missão em fevereiro. Ele disse que é a melhor missão que existe! Nós até tiramos uma foto juntos, e acredito que ele irá postar no grupo da missão no Facebook.

Obrigado por todas as cartas e emails e por favor continue enviando-os sempre! Mesmo que eu não possa responder a elas, eu amo saber como tudo está indo com vocês!

P.S.: Amo você mãe! Você é ótima! Obrigado por tudo! Eu sei que o poder do Espírito é real. É tão forte aqui. Quando você ora por qualquer coisa, realmente acontece, ou quando você começa algo, eu lhe prometo que você será guiada pelo Senhor. Eu tenho visto isso acontecer aqui todos os dias e realmente é um milagre!

As duas primeiras fotos são de nossos outros companheiros de quarto [são 4 em um quarto, duas beliches], a primeira é uma pequena festa que fizemos e a segunda na classe.

Na terceira, os dois sentados são nossos líderes de zona. A quarta sou eu e Elder Sears, e somos muito amigos! Ele é o que tem o irmão que ensina Português aqui no CTM. Eu amo muito meu distrito, somos irmãos já!

As últimas duas somos eu e meu companheiro em classe, e a última somos nós neste momento, enviando emails para nossas famílias! )

Second week in the MTC

(Segunda semana no CTM)

Thanks so much for all the support and everything you guys have said!

This week has gone by pretty fast except for a couple days of the week. 

We have had our first investigator Areli, She was a teacher who we didn't know and we taught her like 5 lessons all in Spanish already. I've already taught 3 different investigators multiple times in Spanish! It is pretty hard especially when you have a perfect answer for them in English but you don't know how to translate it to Spanish! My Spanish is coming along pretty well,  it's just really confusing. because some words in Portuguese and Spanish are similar but they mean different things.

Some of my struggles have been the Spanish and the food, especially talking in Spanish and teaching in it. I definitely know I'll get better though. It's just going to take some time, I just want to go to Argentina already because then I could learn the Spanish faster!

I love Alma 48:17 that says:

"Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men."

I love this scripture because I want to be just like Captain Moroni! 

Mom you're awesome and I love hearing from you every week! You really are a blessing to me!

I'm sending a picture of my zone! The other two are the classroom I spend 8 to 10 hours of my day in EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!!!!!!

Essa semana passou bem rápido, com exceção de dois dias.

Nós tivemos nossa primeira investigadora, Areli. Ela era uma professora que nós não conhecíamos e a ensinamos 5 lições em espanhol já! Eu também ensinei 3 outros investigadores diferentes várias vezes em Espanhol. É bem difícil, principalmente porque temos a resposta perfeita para eles em Inglês, mas não sei traduzir para o Espanhol! Meu Espanhol está vindo bem, mas é realmente confuso, porque algumas palavas que sei em Português e Espanhol são similares mas significam coisas diferentes.

Eu amo Alma 48:17 que diz: 

"Sim, em verdade, em verdade vos digo que se todos os homens tivessem sido e fossem e pudessem sempre ser como Morôni, eis que os próprios poderes do inferno teriam sido abalados para sempre; sim, o diabo nunca teria poder sobre o coração dos filhos dos homens."

Eu amo essa escritura porque eu quero ser exatamente como o Capitão Moroni!

Mãe, você é demais e eu amo receber suas cartas toda semana. Você é uma bênção pra mim!

First week at the Provo MTC

The first week has been SO AWESOME!

Yesterday we had a devotional and Russel M. Nelson, the President of the Quorum of the Twelve, came and talked to us! It was SO sweet hearing his talk! He talked about us as missionaries and how we are bringing others unto Christ.

The whole experience here is so awesome! The spirit is so strong here and my district is so incredible!

We are all already pretty much best friends! Even the district presidency said that he has never had a group who liked each other and loved each other so much! Our brotherhood has definitely helped us all grow spiritually together!

I dont get much free time to do much but I try! I'm writing in my journal every night and trying to keep a good record of everything we do. We only get one hour every night to prepare for the next day and write so we are crunched for time!

I'll also try my best to send pictures every week for you!

(Esta primeira semana foi tão maravilhosa!

Ontem nós tivemos um devocional e Russell M. Nelson, o Presidente do Quórum dos Doze Apóstolos, veio e falou conosco! Foi ÓTIMO ouvir seu discurso! Ele falou sobre nós como missionários trazendo outros até Cristo.

A experiência como um todo é tão legal! O Espírito é tão forte aqui e meu distrito é incrível!

Nós já somos praticamente melhores amigos! Até a presidência do distrito disse que ele nunca teve um grupo que se dava tão bem e já amam uns aos outros tanto assim! Nossa irmandade tem definitivamente nos ajudado a crescer espiritualmente juntos.

Eu soube que minha data de retorno será dia 11 de julho de 2017, e eu ficarei aqui no CTM por 6 semanas inteiras, e acredito que estaremos viajando até a Argentina no dia 8 de setembro.

Eu não tenho muito tempo livre mas eu tento fazer tudo que preciso. Estou escrevendo em meu diário toda noite para manter um bom relatório de tudo que fazemos. Nós temos apenas uma hora por noite para nos prepararmos para o dia seguinte e escrevermos, então estamos apertados com o tempo.

Eu também farei meu melhor para enviar fotos toda semana para você!
