Progressing

Elder Tito and I had a week full of ups and downs. Lots of things happened this week, lots of people were dropped, and lots of people were found. Elder Tito and I saw many miracles and (I don’t know what word to use other than...) lots of crap. But everything is going great with us. One of the ups about this week was that we have 2 people with a baptismal date! One of the downs could be that this is the first week in 5 weeks that we haven’t gotten over 20 lessons with a member which was sad...

We got to see Elder Bednar this week! We had to wake up at 4:30 a.m. to do it but it was worth it. All the missionaries from the Buenos Aires missions (all 4 missions) got together in one of the stake centers in our mission that’s called Caballito (I think that’s how you spell it),  and we got to listen to Elder Bednar talk. All the missions’ presidents were there and the conference was shown to all the South American south missions. Elder Bednar and his wife talked about lots of things that could help us out on the field and how we can better ourselves as missionaries and as people. Elder Bednar and his wife said lots of things that I needed to hear. Some of my favorite things he said in his talk that I wrote down were:

"Are you ready to work?"

"If you want to be blessed you need to act."

He talked about how when we ask we don’t just ask; we need to "ask in faith."

"Stop worrying about everything, every single little thing, just work."

Something that Sister Bednar said was:

"We are very dependent on the Lord. He will help us do things that we ourselves don’t think we can do."

I know that’s true, I’ve seen this so many times in my mission especially when I don’t know what to say. Because the Lord promises us that if we open our mouth, it will be filled (D&C33:10), but one of the most important things about this scripture is that we need to open our mouth first.

Elder Tito and I work pretty well together. Some members and our zone leaders have said the same thing. This unity we have is really helping us find people here in Don Torcuato; we’ve especially seen that this week.

We found this 12 year old that’s called Jesus, his dad is a less active member and we got Jesus to come to church with us yesterday. He is a great kid and really wants to learn more. We also had the miracle of putting a baptismal date with Juan Carlos Rivas, which was great. Now I just hope his work schedule can change, but other than them we don’t really have anyone else that’s going to progress. People fell through this week like Denise but people like the Familia Pacheco are still going. Let’s see what happens.

We as missionaries teach something like that almost every day. We teach that Jesus taught five main things that we need to do in this life. And they are,

•          Fe en Jesucristo
•          Arrepentimiento
•          Bautismo
•          Recibir el Espíritu Santo
•          Y el quinto y mas largo que todos, perseverar hasta el fin

Pic 1 - We did some painting this week at a less active’s house. (Don’t worry the second coat made the wall look much better.)

Pics 2 and 3 - After we helped him paint his house for like 3 days he had a surprise for us, he made us a barbecue!

Pics 4 and 5 - This is the barbecue; the brother we were helping is the one handling the stuff. The guy sitting down holding the guitar was this guy (who we taught) who was doing the electrical work in his house. And he was a really good guitar player and singer too!

Pic 8 - I was looking through my sent mail and I found this. It said it had an error or something. But this was my last baptism in Constitution! This is one of the daughters of Hermana Sabina! Karen, she was great! And her son is Thiago. Matias Chavez, the guy with her, baptized her on a Wednesday so that was great!

Progredindo...

Elder Tito e eu tivemos uma semana cheia de altos e baixos. Muitas coisas aconteceram esta semana, muitas pessoas foram retiradas, e muitas outras foram encontradas. Elder Tito e eu vimos muitos milagres e (eu não sei que palavra usar diferente ...) muita porcaria também. Mas tudo está indo muito bem com a gente. Um dos pontos altos sobre esta semana foi que temos 2 pessoas com uma data batismal! Um das coisas chatas que aconteceu é que esta é a primeira semana de 5 semanas que não conseguimos ensinar mais de 20 lições com um membro, então isso foi triste ...

Conseguimos ver Elder Bednar esta semana! Tivemos que acordar às 4:30 da manhã para fazer isso, mas valeu a pena. Todos os missionários das missões de Buenos Aires (todas as 4 missões) se reuniram em uma das sedes de estaca em nossa missão que é chamada de Caballito (acho que é assim que se escreve), e pudemos ouvir Elder Bednar falar. Todos os presidentes das missões estavam lá e a conferência foi transmitida para todas as missões ao sul da América do Sul. Elder Bednar e sua esposa falaram sobre muitas coisas que poderiam nos ajudar no campo missionário e como podemos melhorar a nós mesmos como missionários e como pessoas. Elder Bednar e sua esposa disseram muitas coisas que eu precisava ouvir. Algumas das minhas coisas favoritas que eles disseram em seu discurso que eu escrevi foram:

"Você está pronto para trabalhar?"
"Se você quer ser abençoado você precisa agir."

Ele falou sobre como quando oramos não podemos somente pedir; é preciso "pedir com fé".
"Pare de se preocupar com tudo, cada pequena coisa, apenas trabalhe."

Algo que Sister Bednar disse foi:
"Somos muito dependentes do Senhor. Ele vai nos ajudar a fazer as coisas que nós mesmos não achamos que podemos fazer."

Eu sei que isso é verdade, eu já vi isso tantas vezes em minha missão especialmente quando eu não sei o que dizer. Porque o Senhor nos promete que, se "abrir a vossa boca, ela encher-se-á" (D&C33:10), mas uma das coisas mais importantes sobre esta escritura é que precisamos abrir a nossa boca em primeiro lugar.

Elder Tito e eu trabalhamos muito bem juntos. Alguns membros e os nossos líderes da zona disseram a mesma coisa. Essa unidade que temos realmente nos ajuda a encontrar as pessoas aqui em Don Torcuato; temos visto isso especialmente esta semana.

Encontramos este garoto de 12 anos de idade que se chama Jesus. Seu pai é um membro menos ativo e Jesus foi à igreja conosco ontem. Ele é um grande garoto e realmente quer aprender mais. Também tivemos o milagre de marcar uma data de batismo com Juan Carlos Rivas, que foi ótimo. Agora eu só espero que seu horário de trabalho possa mudar, mas além deles não há outras pessoas que estão progredindo. Pessoas caíram esta semana como Denise, mas as pessoas como a Família Pacheco ainda estão indo bem. Vamos ver o que acontece.

Nós como missionários ensinar algo assim quase todos os dias. Nós acreditamos que Jesus ensinou cinco principais coisas que temos de fazer nesta vida. E eles são,

• Fe en Jesucristo

• Recibir el Espíritu Santo
• Y el quinto y mas largo Que todos, perseverar hasta el fin

Obrigado por tudo! Espero que vocês tenham uma ótima semana! Ah, e outra coisa Élder Bednar disse foi que quando temos fé, temos de agir, e quando agimos, temos o poder e ajuda de que precisamos. Então lembre-se, Tiago disse que a fé sem obras é morta (Tiago 2:14-26), então mostre sua fé ao Senhor com ações!

Fotos 2 e 3 - Depois que o ajudamos a pintar sua casa por uns 3 dias, ele fez uma surpresa para nós, ele nos fez um churrasco!

Fotos 4 e 5 - Este é o churrasco; o irmão que estávamos ajudando é o que está cortando a carne. O cara sentado segurando o violão era esse cara (que nós ensinamos), que estava fazendo o trabalho elétrico em sua casa. E ele era realmente um bom guitarrista e cantor também!

Foto 8 - Eu estava olhando meus e-mails enviados e achei essa foto que não havia ido na época devido a um erro ou algo assim. Mas este foi o meu último batismo na área Constituición I! Esta é uma das filhas de Hermana Sabina! Karen, ela foi ótima! E seu filho é Thiago. Matias Chavez, o cara com ela, a batizou em uma quarta-feira que foi ótimo!

New transfer

This week was a good week. We had transfers yesterday too! Elder Tito and I are staying together for another transfer! This transfer is going to be 8 weeks long, not 6, because they are changing the MTC, so now every missionary who is going on a mission speaking his own language has to be in the MTC for 20 something days, not just 10 days like it was before. So that means my mission is being extended by 2 weeks, but anyway we are doing good here in Don Torcuato. We have lots of good possibilities this transfer too, so I hope we have a transfer with lots of success.

[We have] the same investigators I sent last week. If you could keep praying for them this week that would be awesome. Denise is a maybe now but let’s see what happens. Just keep praying for us, thanks!

Tomorrow we have a meeting early in the morning with Elder Bednar. He is going to talk to the mission so that should be sweet! I don’t know if he is coming to the church where we are going to watch it but we are excited to listen to him talk.

No, we don’t really have a [person like] Hermana Sabina here. We have this sister called Hermana Cadillo that’s really awesome but it’s not the same. I think its because this area is so huge so we can’t really be in one area all the time.

Pics 1 and 2 - This is me with Elder Twitchell. He is like my opposite, because he was born in the States and when he was young he moved to Brasil! It’s pretty awesome and I did divisions with him this week! He is a great Elder!

Pic 3 - This is the ukulele I bought for Christmas. It’s pretty sweet and pretty big for a normal ukulele too! I can already play a couple songs too so that’s fun!

Pics 4 and 5 - This is us at a birthday party this week, it’s pretty sweet, it was Julli´s birthday (she is the little girl) and she gave us these sweet "frozen" movie cups that say Julli's 6th birthday.

Pics 6 and 7 - This is us with the Familia Spiritelli. The husband is the 2nd Counselor in the District Presidency and his wife was less active for over a year. They started coming again and now she got called as the new Seminary teacher.

Esta semana foi uma boa semana. Tivemos transferências ontem também! Elder Tito e eu vamos ficar juntos por outra transferência! Esta transferência vai ser de 8 semanas de duração, não 6, porque eles estão mudando o MTC, então agora cada missionário que está indo em uma missão que fala sua própria língua tem que estar no MTC durante 20 dias, e não apenas 10 dias como que era antes. Então isso significa que a minha missão está sendo estendida por 2 semanas, mas de qualquer maneira estamos a fazer um bom trabalho aqui em Don Torcuato. Temos muitas boas possibilidades nessa transferência também, então eu espero que nós tenhamos uma transferência com muito sucesso.

[Temos] os mesmos investigadores que enviei na semana passada. Se vocês puderem continuar orando por eles esta semana seria fantástico. Denise é um talvez agora, mas vamos ver o que acontece. Apenas continue orando por nós, obrigado!

Amanhã temos uma reunião no início da manhã com o Élder Bednar. Ele vai falar com a missão e deve ser muito bom! Eu não sei se ele estará indo para a capela onde estaremos indo vê-lo, mas estamos animados para ouvi-lo falar.

Não, nós realmente não temos uma [pessoa como] Hermana Sabina aqui. Temos esta irmã chamada Hermana Cadillo que é realmente impressionante, mas não é a mesma coisa. Eu acho que é porque esta área é tão grande por isso não podemos estar realmente em somente uma área o tempo todo.

Foto 3 - Este é o ukulele que eu comprei para o Natal. É muito bom e é grande para um ukulele normal também! Eu já posso tocar algumas músicas também por isso é divertido!

Fotos 4 e 5 – Estas estamos em uma festa de aniversário esta semana, foi muito bom. Era o aniversário da Julli (a garotinha pequena) e ela nos deu estes copos do filme Frozen que dizem sexto aniversário de Julli.

Fotos 6 e 7 – Nesta estamos com a Familia Spiritelli. O marido é o segundo conselheiro na presidência do distrito e sua esposa era menos ativa  há mais de um ano. Eles começaram a vir de novo e agora ela foi chamada como a nova professora do Seminário.

Fotos 8 e 9 - Esta semana fizemos um pouco de arroz e milanesas. Este alimento durou-nos para como 3 dias e foi bom!

Hard work pays off!

Hello! 

This week went well, we had a good hard working week and we got a couple of our investigators to come to church yesterday! One even has a baptismal date! So that’s great! We are getting better at contacting and finding new people. Even though we are doing better, we could always do better then what we are doing now.

I [have lost a lot of weight], and I’m gonna keep losing. I know what I’m doing so don’t worry about it, I know what to do. and I’m not sure what I’ve lost so far but like I said, I’m gonna lose more.

I hope grandma gets better! I will write to and pray for her!

Tell Allie I’m praying for her and I hope she gets better! And tell Sean happy birthday for me too!

Transfers are next week. Something we also learned is that the next transfer is going to be 8 weeks long, not 6. Because of the change in the MTC and all that so I’m gonna have a long transfer!

Our investigators are doing well and some are progressing! This week I’d love if you guys could pray for these names:

·         Denise, she has a baptismal date!
·         Juan Carlos Rivas;
·         Brisa Piscoya and her mom;
·         Familia Barrios;
·         Liz.

We don’t really get different or healthier food in the area but I’ve been trying to use my money and buy better food. So I’m eating more vegetables and fruits here, and when we have them when we eat with members I try to eat that more.

Something I learned this week is that hard work pays off. Like I said before, this area Don Torcuato hasn’t had a baptism in over a year. Elder Tito and I have been working so hard every week. At moments it was seriously like "why do we not have anything? We are doing everything we can, contacting everyone, being obedient, etc.", but we’ve learned that we could always do more, and while we try to do more and more we have to keep doing what we are already doing. Because when you keep working, when you are diligent, you will be blessed and you will see miracles in your life. And that’s what we’ve seen here in the area. As we’ve been trying to work more and more with members and doing different things, we have seen miracles every day. And one miracle that everyone can see is our investigator with a baptismal date, Denise.

I am so glad to be here. I’m so glad that I am having the opportunity to be the instrument in the Lord’s hands to bring others unto Christ. This is such an important experience and I can see myself growing every day. The investigators we have now are great possibilities but we want more. We want to help as many people as we can!

I want to thank everyone for all the prayers and for reading this every week. Sorry I’m not the best writer and I’m not the best at explaining things, but I want everyone to know that I know god and Jesus live and that they are watching over us every day. They are helping us grow into the best people we can be. And I know that if we work hard, and follow the promptings from the Spirit, we will be blessed. We will be guided through life to reach the potential that God knows we have.

Before I end, I want to invite everyone to do something I’ve been thinking about this week. The question is, why do you do what you do? Why do you get up every morning? Why do you work to better yourself every day?

We all have goals for our lives, and something I’ve felt this week is what’s stopping us from doing what we want to do? And the answer I got was us, ourselves. We are the only ones standing in the way from accomplishing our dreams and our goals. When it comes to our individual lives, there is no reason to have a plan B, because having a plan B distracts us from plan A. The importance of this is that we have to do everything we can, work as hard as we can for that plan A. God has promised that, if we do our best to follow Him and keep His commandments, we will be blessed. So with the help from the Lord, doing everything right and to the best of our abilities, we will be blessed with reaching our goals. So my invitation is for everyone to think about their goals, and think about why you do what you do. And write it down. Write it down so you can remind yourself of your goals!

Estamos melhorando em fazer contatos e encontrar novas pessoas. Mesmo que estamos a melhorar, podemos sempre fazer melhor, então é isso o que estamos fazendo agora.

Eu [perdi muito peso], e eu vou continuar perdendo. Eu sei o que estou fazendo, então não se preocupe com isso, eu sei o que fazer. e eu não tenho certeza de quanto eu perdi até agora, mas como eu disse, eu vou perder mais.

Espero que a vovó melhore logo! Vou escrever e orar por ela!

Diga a Allie que estou orando por ela também e espero que ela fique melhor! E diga ao Sean feliz aniversário para mim também!

As transferências são na próxima semana. Algo que também aprendi é que a próxima transferência vai ser de 8 semanas de duração, não 6. Por causa da mudança no CTM e tudo, então eu vou ter uma longa transferência!

Nossos investigadores estão indo bem e alguns estão progredindo! Esta semana eu adoraria se vocês pudessem orar por esses nomes:

Nós realmente não obtemos comida diferente ou mais saudável nessa área, mas eu tenho tentado usar meu dinheiro para comprar comida melhor. Então, eu estou comendo mais vegetais e frutas aqui, e quando nós os temos quando comemos com os membros, tento comer mais isso também.

Algo que eu aprendi esta semana é que o trabalho duro compensa. Como eu disse antes, esta área Don Torcuato não tem um batismo em mais de um ano. Quando você é diligente, você será abençoado, porque quando você continuar trabalhando, você verá milagres em sua vida. E isso é o que temos visto aqui na área. Como temos trabalhado mais a cada dia com os membros e fazendo coisas diferentes, temos visto milagres todos os dias. E um milagre que todos podem ver é o nossa investigadora com uma data batismal, Denise.

Estou tão feliz por estar aqui. Estou tão feliz que eu estou tendo a oportunidade de ser o instrumento nas mãos do Senhor para trazer outros a Cristo. Esta é uma experiência importante e eu posso me ver crescendo a cada dia. Os investigadores que temos agora são grandes possibilidades, mas queremos mais. Queremos ajudar o máximo de pessoas que pudermos!

Quero agradecer a todos por todas as orações e por ler isto a cada semana. Desculpe que não sou o melhor escritor e eu não sou o melhor em explicar as coisas, mas eu quero que todos saibam que eu sei que Deus e Jesus vivem e que Eles estão olhando por nós todos os dias. Eles estão nos ajudando a crescer e nos tornarmos as melhores pessoas que podemos ser. E eu sei que se trabalharmos duro, e seguirmos os sussurros do Espírito, seremos abençoados. Seremos guiados ao longo da vida para alcançar o potencial que Deus sabe que nós temos.

Antes de terminar, gostaria de convidar a todos para fazer algo que eu estive pensando sobre durante esta semana. A questão é, por que você faz o que você faz? Por que você se levanta todas as manhãs? Por que você trabalha para melhorar a si mesmo todos os dias?

Todos nós temos metas para nossa vida. E algo que eu senti esta semana é, O que está nos impedindo de fazer o que queremos fazer? E a resposta que obtive foi: nós mesmos. Nós somos os únicos que estão no nosso caminho impedindo de realizar nossos sonhos e objetivos. Quando se trata de nossas vidas individuais, não há nenhuma razão para ter um plano B, porque ter um plano B nos distrai do plano A. A importância disso é que temos de fazer tudo o que podemos, trabalhar tão duro quanto possível para que o plano A aconteça.

Deus prometeu que, se fizermos o nosso melhor para segui-Lo e guardar Seus mandamentos, seremos abençoados. Assim, com a ajuda do Senhor, fazendo tudo certo e com o melhor de nossas habilidades, seremos abençoados e alcançaremos nossos objetivos. Então, meu convite a todos é que pensem sobre seus objetivos, e pensem sobre por que você faz o que faz. E escreva-os. Anote em um papel para que possa lembrar-se de seus objetivos!
