Talents, Gifts & Patriarchal Blessings

We had a good, cold week! It’s starting to get freezing down here... but we are keeping warm.

Today I think we are just going to go rest, cook something sweet, I don’t know, but I did want to talk a little bit about patriarchal blessings! This week I was studying my blessing and as always, it amazed me to see how the Lord knows me and how and what He wants me to do in life. The blessings that we are promised are celestial, but what I really learned a lot about is the gifts that the Spirit confirms upon us, and in my PB it talks a lot about the gifts of the Spirit. As I was studying them this week I focused a lot on Moroni 10 and D&C 46. Many of the gifts are listed there but there are much more that Heavenly Father gives us.

I have been blessed to see some of my gifts while I’ve been here on my mission. Two of the biggest ones I’ve seen is the gift of tongues and the ability to talk to a lot of people and not have that much fear or at least not let it show. 😊 jaja I know the Lord has blessed every single one of us with gifts, and it’s our job to figure them out and use them to help ourselves and others grow around us. Every gift and talent we have can help people change their lives.

Investigator wise we are doing good. We are finding more and more people every day! This week we found some people that are really looking like they are going to progress. Isabel is a woman from Colombia which has like 8 children and they all have their own families! She is the only one – well, with one daughter – that live here in Argentina! We found her while we were knocking on a door in the Villa and she walked by. We started talking to her and we ended up having a great lesson with a member in her house a couple days later. She ended up coming to church solo so that was a great miracle! We are also working with a lot of different people but something I’ve noticed is that we have a lot of women! But we always try to find families. There are a lot of possibilities! Here is a picture of my agenda with all the contacts we have this week! You’ll notice I crossed out Isabel because she said she didn’t want to come so we thought we weren’t going to teach her anymore... but she ended up coming alone and she told us she read the book of Mormon and felt like coming yesterday! We have a day set to go see her this week so I hope she progresses!

Usually, when I do divisions with other Elders in our district we meet up somewhere and then we do the exchange. The areas in my district are Almagro, Nueva Pompeya, Chacabuco Hermana’s, Soldati Monoblock’s, and Villa Soldati (which is us). We are somewhat close to one another so it’s not that hard to do divisions. The most dangerous areas would be us and the other Soldati area. Chacabuco, Almagro, and Pompeya are all in the capital so they don’t have to worry about much stuff happening to them. But recently everyone has had success in their areas so we are all pretty even on that end.

Last week I sent the videos for the 12 steps, and like those stories, we have seen many miracles, like Roberto who got baptized. He was into drugs and everything, we helped him out and got him focused on more important things and now he is doing great! He is going to church and everything!

Talentos, Dons & Bênçãos Patriarcais

Nós tivemos uma semana boa e fria! Está começando a congelar aqui ... mas estamos nos mantendo agasalhados.

Hoje eu acho que vamos descansar, cozinhar algo gostoso, eu não sei, mas eu queria falar um pouco sobre as bênçãos patriarcais! Esta semana eu estava estudando a minha bênção e, como sempre, espantou-me ver como o Senhor me conhece e o que Ele quer que eu faça na vida. As bênçãos que nos são prometidas são celestiais, mas o que eu realmente aprendi muito é sobre os dons que o Espírito confirma sobre nós. Na minha BP fala muito sobre os dons do Espírito. Como eu estava estudando-os esta semana, eu me concentrei muito em Moroni 10 e D&C 46. Muitos dos dons e talentos estão listados lá, mas há muitos mais que o Pai Celestial nos dá.

Fui abençoado por melhorar e descobrir alguns dos meus dons enquanto estou aqui na minha missão. Dois dos maiores que eu vejo são o dom de línguas e a capacidade de falar com um monte de gente e não ter medo, ou pelo menos não mostrar medo. :) jaja Eu sei que o Senhor abençoou cada um de nós com dons e talentos, e é nosso trabalho descobri-los e usá-los para ajudar a nós mesmos e outros a nosso redor a crescerem. Cada dom e talento que temos pode ajudar as pessoas a mudar suas vidas.

Em matérias de investigadores, estamos bem também. Estamos encontrando mais e mais pessoas todos os dias! Esta semana encontramos algumas pessoas que parecem que realmente irão progredir. Como Isabel por exemplo, que é uma mulher da Colômbia que tem 8 filhos e todos eles têm suas próprias famílias! Ela é a única - bem, com uma filha - que vive aqui na Argentina! Nós a encontramos enquanto estávamos batendo em uma porta na Villa e ela passou por nós. Nós começamos a conversar com ela e acabamos tendo uma grande lição com um membro em sua casa alguns dias depois. Ela acabou vindo à igreja sozinha ontem, por isso foi um grande milagre! Nós também estamos trabalhando com um monte de pessoas diferentes, mas algo que eu notei é que temos um monte de mulheres, embora sempre tentamos encontrar famílias. Há um monte de possibilidades! Aqui está uma foto da minha agenda com todos os contatos que temos esta semana! Você notará que eu havia riscado Isabel porque ela disse que não queria vir, então nós pensamos que não íamos ensiná-la mais... mas ela acabou vindo sozinha e ela nos disse que ela leu o livro de Mórmon e sentiu como se precisasse vir ontem! Temos um horário marcado para ir vê-la esta semana, então espero que ela progrida!

Normalmente, quando faço divisões com outros Elderes em nosso distrito, nos encontramos em algum lugar e depois fazemos a troca de companheiros. As áreas em meu distrito são Almagro, Nueva Pompeya, Chacabuco (onde as Sisteres estão), Soldati Monoblocos, e Villa Soldati (que é nós). Estamos um pouco próximos uns dos outros por isso não é tão difícil de fazer divisões. As áreas mais perigosas seriam nós e a outra área de Soldati. Chacabuco, Almagro e Pompeya estão todos na capital então eles não precisam se preocupar com muita coisa acontecendo com eles. Mas, recentemente, todos tivemos sucesso em nossas áreas, então estamos todos muito bem mesmo até agora.

Na semana passada enviei os vídeos sobre os 12 passos, e como essas histórias, temos visto muitos milagres, como Roberto que foi batizado. Ele estava lutando contra as drogas, nós o ajudamos e o focamos em coisas mais importantes e agora ele está ótimo! Ele está indo para a igreja e tudo!

Jesus & The 12 Steps

I had a great week this week! Lots of good things happened, and many miracles were seen, but something I really loved about this week was that I downloaded a series of videos from the Mormon Channel called “12 steps to recovery”. They talk about recovery from situations in life, also from addictions. They are really good examples of how we can repent and apply the Atonement in our lives. Here is the link:

They are very powerful and real stories that really showed me the power of the Atonement. It makes me so grateful to know its power, and the love Jesus has for every one of us. I love telling people that we teach that our message really is a message that can bring peace in any circumstance.

I am so thankful that we can have a Savior, even Jesus Christ, who came here to teach us, be our example, and die for the sins of us all. I know He lives and I know His message can change the lives of anyone who will let Him in.

My companions and I could really see the power of repentance this week. We saw many miracles and progress happen with our investigators. 

However, one thing got us down this week. Thursday we had a baptismal interview of a girl called Micaela that we were teaching. She is 18 years old and really changed a lot in our process of teaching her the commandments. She had her interview, passed everything, came to church many times, but did not want to be baptized... Sometimes I don’t understand things like that. We were very sad for her, but respect her agency! 

It was hard for us, but what was incredible was that, after all that happened, we went out and kept working hard talking to many people. We found a woman whose name is Alejandra, who is the mother of an old investigator that we found in the area book. She has gone through many things in her life and the message of the Gospel was perfect for her. We went in and had maybe one of the most spiritual lessons I have ever had with any investigator. She cried and talked to us about her struggles. She also spoke about her other daughter who is 14 years old and cannot move or do anything because she is disabled. I felt God’s love for her and her daughter so strongly. She did not have the opportunity to come to church this Sunday because she had to stay with her daughter, but we hope she can come next week.

My companions are doing great. We get along really well and it has been fun being to be in a trio. We are talking to many people. It’s been hard for the two of them to talk to a lot of people and do contacts because Elder Freitas is new here on the mission so he doesn’t talk the best Spanish yet, and Elder Acuña is new also and is still learning how to be a missionary, but they are really good companions.

Eu tive uma otima semana! Muitas coisas boas aconteceram, e muitos milagres foram vistos, mas algo que eu realmente amei nesta semana foi que eu baixei uma série de vídeos do Canal Mórmon chamados "12 passos para a recuperação". Eles falam sobre a recuperação de situações na vida, também de vícios. Eles são realmente bons exemplos de como podemos nos arrepender e aplicar a Expiação em nossas vidas. São histórias muito poderosas e reais que realmente me mostraram o poder da Expiação. Isso me faz muito grato por conhecer Seu poder, e o amor que Jesus tem por cada um de nós. Eu amo dizer às pessoas que ensinamos que a nossa mensagem é realmente uma mensagem que pode trazer a paz em qualquer circunstância.

Estou tão grato por podermos ter um Salvador Jesus Cristo, que veio aqui para nos ensinar, ser nosso exemplo e morrer pelos pecados de todos nós. Eu sei que Ele vive e eu sei que Sua mensagem pode mudar as vidas de qualquer um que o deixe entrar.

Meus companheiros e eu realmente poderíamos ver o poder do arrependimento nesta semana. Vimos muitos milagres e progresso acontecer com nossos investigadores.
No entanto, uma coisa nos trouxe para baixo esta semana. Quinta-feira tivemos uma entrevista batismal de uma menina chamada Micaela que nós estávamos ensinando. Ela tem 18 anos e realmente mudou muito no nosso processo de ensinar-lhe os mandamentos. Ela teve sua entrevista, passou tudo, veio à igreja muitas vezes, mas não queria ser batizada ... Às vezes eu não entendo coisas assim. Estávamos muito tristes por ela, mas respeitar seu arbitrio!
 

Foi difícil para nós, mas o mais incrível foi que, depois de tudo o que aconteceu, fomos e continuamos trabalhando duro conversando com muitas pessoas. Encontramos uma mulher cujo nome é Alejandra, que é a mãe de um antigo investigador que encontramos no livro de área. Ela passou por muitas coisas em sua vida e a mensagem do Evangelho foi perfeita para ela. Nós fomos e tivemos talvez uma das lições mais espirituais que eu já tive com qualquer investigador. Ela chorou e falou conosco sobre suas lutas. Ela também falou sobre sua outra filha que tem 14 anos e não pode se mover ou fazer nada porque ela é cadeirante. Senti o amor de Deus por ela e sua filha com tanta força. Ela não teve a oportunidade de ir à igreja neste domingo porque ela teve que ficar com sua filha, mas esperamos que ela possa vir na próxima semana.
 

Meus companheiros estão indo muito bem. Nós nos damos muito bem e foi divertido estar em um trio. Estamos falando com muitas pessoas. Ainda e um pouco difícil para os dois falarem com muitas pessoas e fazer contatos porque o Élder Freitas é novo aqui na missão e ele não fala o melhor espanhol ainda, e Elder Acuña é novo também e ainda está aprendendo como ser um missionário, mas eles são realmente bons companheiros.
