Hard work week

Hello!

This week went by pretty well. I’m doing pretty well here in Don Torcuato. This area is really huge and we are only 2 elders so it’s hard to know where to work or what to do sometimes! 

Health wise this week went good, nothing happened to me so I’m doing all good.

I do have to be honest though, Elder Tito and I worked really hard this week. We had 21 lessons with a member this week, which is the first time Elder Tito has ever gotten more than 18 lessons here in Don Torcuato. You might think that 20 or so lessons aren’t that much for a whole week, but hear me out. A lesson with a member consists of a person that we contact through a member, in this lesson we need to present ourselves and get to know the investigator, we need to pass the filters like if the investigator is married or is living with family, a doctrine needs to be taught in the lesson, the members has to share a testimony, and we need to end the lesson with a prayer. and if we don’t end it in a prayer we can’t count it as a lesson with a member! So that’s hard! At least I think so. But yeah we got more then 20, and our goal for the rest of the transfer is to get over 20 every week!

In my new area we don’t have a member to do our laundry! So we have to do it ourselves, but I want to find a place that can do it, just because it takes too much time to do it and I have other things to do, you know?

Oh yes Eliana is a member that we work with a lot because she accompanies us like every other day! So yeah, those pictures were from here and I think you might be getting more photos like that from her! So I hope you like them!

That’s awesome [you are having blessings and] how when we do the little things like going to church, reading the Book of Mormon, and praying, we can be blessed in our life like that! That’s what the missionaries are out here doing, inviting and trying to get people to do the little things in their life so they can be blessed.

About the Stake conference, wow that’s awesome! Say hi and thank you to everyone for me! And about Elder Alan Packer, that’s awesome that he knows my mission president!

[The new Mission president starting July 2016 in Argentina Buenos Aires North mission is Robert T. Smith, which is Elder Alan F. Packer’s – the authority that presided our Stake Conference this weekend – bishop. ]

We never had transfer meetings, but we did have despedidas! Which we don’t have any more which is sad because they we awesome! The despedidas happened when it was the end of the last transfer for a Hermana or an Elder, so they would have like this fireside thing and they would talk about their missions and their experiences which was awesome. I got to go to the last 3! But yeah we can’t do them anymore...

Thank you for the email! I want to share a scripture with everyone this week! It’s John 8: 29 in the Bible. It’s about something that every missionary knows. We know that the Lord is with us. He is always helping us and always by our side, but sometimes as humans we forget that because of things like fear or laziness. and satan always tries to get us thinking like "I can’t do this" but I know I can. We need to have the mentality of "yes, I can" because as a missionary, I can see that this mentality can help you do many things.

Esta semana se passou muito bem. Eu estou indo muito bem aqui em Don Torcuato. Esta área é realmente enorme e somos apenas dois Elderes por isso é difícil saber onde trabalhamos ou o que fazer às vezes!

Sobre minha saúde esta semana foi bom, nada aconteceu comigo assim eu estou indo muito bem.Eu tenho que ser honesto, porém. Élder Tito e eu trabalhamos muito duro esta semana. Tivemos 21 lições com um membro, que é a primeiro vez que Elder Tito teve mais de 18 aulas aqui em Don Torcuato. Você pode pensar que 20 ou mais aulas não são muito durante uma semana inteira, mas me ouça. Uma lição com um membro presente consiste de uma pessoa que entramos em contato através de um membro. Nesta lição temos de nos apresentar e conhecer o investigador, precisamos passar pelos filtros como se o investigador é casado ou vive com a família, uma doutrina precisa ser ensinada na aula, os membros tem de partilhar um testemunho, e nós precisamos terminar a lição com uma oração. e se não finalizarmos com uma oração não podemos contá-la como uma lição com um membro! Então, isso é difícil! Pelo menos eu penso assim. Mas sim nós tivemos mais de 20, e nosso objetivo para o resto da transferência é fazer com que tenhamos mais de 20 a cada semana!Na minha nova área não temos alguem que lave nossas roupas! Então nós temos que fazê-lo nós mesmos, mas eu quero encontrar um lugar que possamos fazê-lo, só porque ele leva muito tempo para fazê-lo e eu tenho outras coisas para fazer, entende?

Oh sim Eliana é um membro que trabalha muito conosco porque ela nos acompanha varios dias na semana! Então, sim, as fotos eram dela e eu acho que você estara recebendo mais fotos dela! Então, eu espero que você goste!

Isso é incrível [você está tendo bênçãos e] como quando fazemos as pequenas coisas como ir à igreja, ler o Livro de Mórmon e orando, podemos ser abençoados em nossa vida assim! Isso é o que os missionários estão aqui a fazer, convidando e tentando levar as pessoas a fazer as pequenas coisas em sua vida para que eles possam ser abençoados.

Sobre a conferência da Estaca, wow isso é incrível! Diga oi e obrigado a todos por mim! Nós nunca tivemos reuniões de transferência, mas tivemos Despedidas! Que não temos mais o que é triste, porque eles sao impressionantes! Eu fui nas últimas 3! Mas sim, não podemos fazê-las mais ...

Obrigado pelo e-mail! Quero compartilhar uma escritura com todos esta semana! É João 8:29 na Bíblia. Trata-se de algo que todo missionário sabe. Sabemos que o Senhor está conosco. Ele está sempre nos ajudando e sempre ao nosso lado, mas, por vezes, como seres humanos nos esquecemos de que por causa de coisas como medo ou preguiça, satanás sempre tenta nos fazer pensar como "Eu não posso fazer isso", mas eu sei que posso. Precisamos ter a mentalidade de "sim, eu posso", porque, como missionário, eu vejo que esta mentalidade pode nos ajudar a fazer muitas coisas.

Hello! It’s a new week!

Hello! It’s a new week!

I’m doing well in the new area. The area is really big! Like we have the whole town of Don Torcuato! I’m going to send a picture of our map later but it’s huge! Something that you can compare this area too is that there used to be 6 elders here! But now there are only 2 because the mission got cut down. (Because before there used to be like 250 elders in this mission but now there is only like 200) oh and by the way, this isn’t even a ward, it’s a branch. 

We have about 60 active members that come to church every week. And we have a list of over 150 less actives. This used to be a ward but things happened here in between members and leaders and lots of people went inactive. So you can imagine that the ward is kind of dead. Things happened before with some missionaries that were here so our relationship with some members aren’t the best. But me and elder Tito want to change things around here. Because there is just too much tension. We are planning lots of activities to help the members come together and help the less active members. 

Like I (think) I said before this area hasn’t baptized in over a year. I was looking through the papers and the last baptism was in November 2014... Yeah that long ago. But me and elder Tito are going to change things around here! We have been working hard this week and we plan on working harder. 

We have about 13 "investigators" that we are looking at. We had more last week but we are starting to clean them out, if you know what I mean. But yes, this area is great! There is lots of potential here; we just have to find it! Oh and yes this area is closer to San Fernando, our [mission] offices. But with the bus system it still takes us over an hour to get there so it’s about the same.

With a new area there always comes a new apartment, and honestly, our apartment is about the same, but it’s like 4 times bigger then my last one so we have lots of space which is nice! But what’s bad is that there is no air conditioner! And how we can’t open up the windows because of the bugs, it’s super-hot in there! We are talking to the offices because we want to get that mosquito net thing on the windows so we can open them up but we don’t know how long that will take... we don’t have any bug problems or anything like that, just the mosquitos. But we keep the pension pretty locked up so we don’t get much in there.

The ward is good. There are lots of people here that want to help and lots of people who don’t want anything to do with us. But yesterday I got to share my testimony in sacrament meeting and I wanted to take advantage of my time so I talked to the members about our plans for the ward. Our vision for the ward is to reactivate members and families and to baptize. But honestly we can’t do that without them, the members. So yeah, that went well. 

We have lots of members that are willing to make food for us so we have to problem with lunches. And proselyting, it’s harder than in the villa. Because in the villa everyone is outside their house and it’s really easy to contact people. But here no, it’s all silence, and there is like no one in the street. And how we have to work through the members that make things hard. But we are working, contacting everyone!

[In the mission here], we are responsible for everything. Rent, all expenses, buying food, knowing how to get places, everything. It’s pretty fun I like it.

Elder Tito is awesome! I love him! I have some pictures you’ll get so wait for those. But yeah he has 15 months on the mission and does everything right so I love it! I’ve learned a lot already and I can’t wait to learn more.

Pics 2 and 3 - These are pictures I should've sent last week but I ran out of time. This are pictures of the Cacupe. It's this huge Catholic church right in the middle of the Villa (in my last area) that literally like every person who went to church in the villa went here, the Cacupe.

Olá! É uma nova semana!

Eu estou indo bem na nova área. A área é realmente grande! Nós temos toda a cidade de Don Torcuato! Eu mandarei uma foto do nosso mapa mais tarde, mas é enorme! Algo que você pode comparar esta área também é que antigamente tínhamos 6 Elderes aqui! Mas agora há apenas 2 porque a missão foi cortada. Outras coisas aconteceram antes com alguns missionários que estavam aqui e o nosso relacionamento com alguns membros não são o melhor. Mas eu e Elder Tito queremos mudar as coisas por aqui. Porque há muita tensão. Estamos planejando muitas atividades para ajudar os membros a se reunirem e ajudar os membros menos ativos.

Como eu (acho que) disse antes nesta área não há um batismo há mais de um ano. Eu estava olhando através dos papéis e o último batismo foi em novembro de 2014 ... Sim, há muito tempo. Mas eu e Elder Tito iremos mudar as coisas por aqui! Temos trabalhado duro esta semana e nós pensamos em trabalhar ainda mais duro.

Temos cerca de 13 "investigadores" que estamos ensinando. Tínhamos mais na semana passada, mas estamos começando a "limpá-los", se você entende o que quero dizer. Mas sim, esta área é ótima! Há muito potencial aqui; nós apenas temos que encontrá-lo! Oh sim e esta área está mais perto de San Fernando, nossos escritórios [da missão]. Mas, como o sistema de ônibus ainda leva mais de uma hora para chegar lá, então é aproximadamente o mesmo.

Com uma nova área vem sempre um apartamento diferente, e honestamente, o nosso apartamento é basicamente o mesmo, mas é tipo 4 vezes maior que meu último por isso temos muito espaço, o que é bom! Mas o que é ruim é que não há ar-condicionado! E como não podemos abrir as janelas por causa dos mosquitos, é super-quente lá! Estamos conversando com os escritórios porque queremos obter essa tela de mosquitos e colocar nas janelas para que possamos abri-las, mas não sabemos quanto tempo isso vai demorar ... não temos quaisquer problemas de outros insetos ou qualquer coisa assim , apenas os mosquitos. Mas deixamos a pensão bastante trancada porque não ficamos muito lá.

A ala é boa. Há muitas pessoas aqui que querem ajudar e muitas pessoas que não querem ter nada a ver com a gente. Mas ontem eu tive que compartilhar meu testemunho na reunião sacramental e eu queria aproveitar o meu tempo, então eu conversei com os membros sobre os nossos planos para a ala. A nossa visão para a ala é reativar membros e as famílias e batizar. Mas, honestamente, não podemos fazer isso sem eles, os membros. Então, sim, [meu testemunho] correu bem.

Temos muitos membros que estão dispostos a fazer comida para nós por isso não temos problemas [com falta de] almoços. E proselitismo, é mais difícil do que na vila. Porque na vila todo mundo está do lado de fora de suas casas é realmente fácil entrar em contato com as pessoas. Mas aqui não, tudo é em silêncio, e não há ninguém na rua. E como nós temos que trabalhar com os membros, isso faz as coisas difíceis. Mas estamos a trabalhar, entrar em contato com todos!

New area: Don Torcuato!

Hello everyone!

I got transferred! I am now in an area that is called “Don Torcuato” with Elder Tito. I don’t know much about him yet but I do know he is from Peru. He is really tranquillo like Elder de Avila. This area, Don Torcuato, is outside of Buenos Aires, it’s also a hard area to work. Like the area hasn’t had a baptism in like 1 whole year which is crazy! But I was sent here to change things! So let’s see what we can do here, I’m really excited to work here and Elder Tito seems like a really good elder. I miss my last area Constitucion 1 and the ward but I know that here we are going to do great things. I’m excited to work here!

I’m happy that everything there is going well! I’m praying for you guys and I hope everything goes good with everything.

I’m happy you guys are also taking the challenge to read the Book of Mormon until Conference. That’s awesome! I’ve seen that it’s been blessing me out here too so I’m glad you guys are doing it.

I bought a ukulele and I’m learning how to play it! Could you send me a book so I can teach myself how to play it?? Just like a simple how to play the ukulele book would be awesome! You can send it to me in an envelope too so I can get it sooner! That would be great, thanks!

Constitucion 1 is doing well, I left Elder de Avila with like 6 investigators counting the family Amarilla, they are progressing well and I’m happy for them! Here I don’t think we have any so we will see how it goes! And yes, I said goodbye to all the members and that was hard! Hermana Sabina was crying when I left too! I love that woman, she is awesome! I’m going to miss her and the other members a lot!

Don Torcuato is a very big area, like we have the whole town of Don Torcuato. From what I heard our area is really calm, nothing much happens. We don’t have bikes we are going to just walk everywhere! And that’s really all I know so far.

I’m doing well, I’m growing more and more every day and I’m excited to work here and to learn from Elder Tito. My testimony has grown a lot since I’ve been here and I’m really happy to be a missionary!

30 de mucho - this is me with Daiana, she was also like really inactive when I first got here. She has lots of problems with her life and with her family but we really helped her out. I’m proud to say that Daiana is preparing to go on a mission in the end of this year and I’m really happy for her! We worked a lot with her and I never thought she would go but she is! The mission is awesome! And the other is me sitting in like the same spot but with Hermana Sabina back there, man I love that lady! She’s amazing!

Nova área: Don Torcuato!

Olá a todos!

Eu fui transferido! Estou agora em uma área que é chamada de "Don Torcuato" com Elder Tito. Eu não sei muito sobre ele ainda, mas eu sei que ele é do Peru. Don Torcuato é uma área muito grande, tipo somos somente nós para toda a cidade de Don Torcuato. Pelo que eu ouvi a nossa área é muito calma, nada acontece. Não temos bicicletas então vamos apenas andar por toda parte! E isso é realmente tudo o que sei até agora.

Eu estou indo bem, eu estou crescendo mais e mais a cada dia e estou animado para trabalhar aqui e aprender com Elder Tito. Meu testemunho cresceu muito desde que estou aqui e eu estou muito feliz de ser um missionário!

7 de mucho - esta é uma lista de todos os jogadores atuais do Boca e a outra é a história do Boca Juniors.

8 de mucho - o estádio e um trem que passa bem próximo a ele!

9 de mucho - fomos ao porto à direita ao lado do estádio também.

10 de mucho - Porto novo e eu estava um pouco doente esta semana e a outra são os meus remédios que eu tomei.

11 de mucho - esta é uma noche de jugar que tivemos no sábado. Primeiro é a comida, a outra sou eu com a familia Ninahe.

12 de mucho - a primeira somos nós com a Hermana Olga à esquerda e à direita é a Hermana Duran. Elas são ótimas senhoras que nos ajudaram muito também. A outra foto somos nós com Lucia, que está segurando o Livro de Mórmon, e Andrea. Elas são ótimas  moças de nossa ala, que nos ajudaram muito! Elas dividem muito também [com as missionárias].

13 de mucho - nós na primeira com a Hermana Sabina, o cara na parte de trás é Matias Maiden. Sua neta, Belen, foi o nosso batismo. Ele estava inativo antes, mas agora ele está realmente ativo e é um membro impressionante! E o outro é Belen! Ela é maravilhosa! A outra foto somos nós com Hermana Sabina e sua filha Marianela. Elas são ótimas membros e estou muito feliz por tê-las encontrado em minha vida! :)

14 de mucho - esta é uma foto da minha capela que frequentei. "La Capilla de la Boca" é enorme.

15 de mucho - outra da igreja. A outro somos nós com a Hermana Soraya e seu marido! Eles são membros impressionantes, e Hermana Soraya, sua comida é a melhor comida na área! Todos os membros a conhecem como "o cozinheira"!

16 de mucho - nós com a familia Procachini e a outra somos nós com a familia Moron. O hermano Procachini era nosso líder da missão da ala e sua esposa é a filha da familia Moron!

17 de mucho - nesta sou eu com Ariel. Ele é um membro que eu trabalhei com ele um monte. Ele era menos ativo e agora ele está se preparando para ir em sua missão!! Estou tão feliz por ele e desejo-lhe o melhor! O outro é seu irmão mais novo!

18 de mucho - agora este é o lugar onde as imagens da nossa vila começam! Sim, eu levei a minha câmera para a vila e tirei um monte de fotos e vídeos! Não consigo enviar os vídeos, mas eles são ótimos! Eu amo a vila 21 !!!!!! :)

21 de mucho - esta é uma foto comigo e Matilde! Esse é o seu filho Primio que está progredindo e eu sinto que ele vai ser batizado.

23 de mucho - esta é uma imagem do outro lado da vila, com trilhos de trem à direita! Na outra foto, somos eu e os Elderes de Avila, Bassett, e Santos. Os 4 Elderes de Constitucion 1!

24 de mucho - esta é a imagem da estação de trem de Constitucion, passamos por ela todos os dias e eu finalmente tenho uma foto dela agora! É gigantesca!

25 de mucho - esta é uma grande igreja católica que passamos  em frente todos os dias no caminho para a  vila!

28 de mucho - ainda a vila e a segunda é um retrato da casa de Hermana Sabina! Nós passamos por esta casa quase todos os dias que trabalhamos na vila!

29 de mucho - a primeira sou eu com a familia Paredes. O pai, Anibal, nos ajudou muito. Ele é um membro impressionante e realmente amou trabalhar com a gente.  A outra sou eu com Matias Chavez, estávamos a jogar mini-pebolim na casa de Hermana Sabina.

30 de mucho - este sou eu com Daiana, ela também era realmente inativa quando comecei a trabalhar aqui. Ela tem muitos problemas em sua vida e com sua família, mas nós realmente a ajudamos a lidar com tudo. Tenho orgulho de dizer que Daiana está se preparando para ir em uma missão no final deste ano e estou muito feliz por ela! Nós trabalhamos muito com ela e eu nunca pensei que ela iria, mas ela irá! A missão é impressionante! E na outra sou eu sentado no mesmo local, mas com Hermana Sabina lá atrás. Puxa, como eu amo essa mulher! Ela é incrível!
