Week 18 - Another week down!

Sadly I won’t get a ton of time to write this week! So I’ll try to answer the questions and tell you everything about this week too! Plus I’ve got lots of pictures as well so I probably won’t write a ton!

It was a crazy week to be honest! We only got to work like 3 days this week! Because we couldn’t work yesterday, or Wednesday and Thursday. First we couldn’t work yesterday because they had elections so it was dangerous then on Wednesday and Thursday we went all the way to a place called Escobar. We spent the whole day traveling there with the president’s wife because elder Kelly did his sleep study. I have pictures so I’ll send them and talk about it!

How we only got to work like 3 days this week we couldn’t find anyone and that was frustrating! But Hermana Sabina is doing well. I love her and she really takes good care of us missionaries.

With Tivorcio, Matilde and Hermalinda.... that was complicated this week. Because we barely saw them and they couldn’t come to church yesterday so sadly we can’t baptize them this Sunday.... but they are awesome, just things came up and we will have to baptize them next transfer.

Do you do splits with missionaries from the MTC, members and even the MP?

Yes we go on splits with the missionaries and the members all the time. and in the areas around President Ayre´s house he does that with them.

Are you making notes and writing down names of the authorities from zone conferences?

Yes and don’t worry all the notes I take from meeting and from conferences are all in one book. I have it all in there. I even have dates and what each thing is so I’m keeping it all pretty organized.

How do you feel about your mission, lunches and family home evenings with members and investigators?

Doing stuff with the members and being out in the street talking to people are really great. We are doing a great work out here. We might not be baptizing much but it’s crazy to see how we’ve focused on the Ward in my time here. Like, we have reactivated like 3 whole families into the Church and a couple other people as well. It’s so great to see how you have just helped someone, you know. Doing family home evening with members is really good too because then they want to help us so we do that all the time.

Pics 5 and 6: These are pictures with two other Elders I did divisions with this week! The tall skinny one is Elder Monsalve and he is awesome. He is from Chile. He is pretty quiet but he is a great teacher. Then the other, the one that’s on the ground, is Elder Andrade. He is from Mexico and great as well. He is like the opposite of Elder Monsalve though, because he is loud and is a really good people person.

Pics 9 and 10: This is the Clinic Fleni we went to do the study at. This is the waiting room and right across from it was the hallway Elder Kelly was in. he was in one of those rooms. We slept on the couch all night and stayed there through the whole study from 10:00 pm to 6:00am the next day! Don’t worry I napped and studied a ton!

Pic 13 and 14: Because of the elections yesterday we couldn't work. So we got permission for the other Elders to come to our pension to sleep over! It was so much fun! The other elders are Elder Basset and Elder Monsalve. In the other picture that’s me and Elder Basset with my companion, Elder Kelly, that’s his arm up there.

Pic 15 and 16: This is us just goofing around! Taking pictures! Elder Basset is from South Africa but moved to Georgia, in the US, when he was young. He’s got crazy ADHD so sometimes he’s a little crazy.

Infelizmente eu não tenho muito tempo para escrever esta semana! Então, eu vou tentar responder às perguntas e dizer-lhe tudo o que aconteceu esta semana também! Além disso, eu tenho muitas fotos então provavelmente não vou escrever uma tonelada!

Foi uma semana louca para ser honesto! Nós só pudemos trabalhar 3 dias esta semana! Porque nós não pudemos trabalhar ontem, ou quarta e quinta-feira. Ontem porque tinha eleições por isso era perigoso. Na quarta e quinta-feira nós viajamos o dia todo até para um lugar chamado Escobar. Passamos o dia inteiro até lá com a esposa do presidente, porque meu companheiro Elder Kelly fez um exame complicado do estudo do sono. Tirei fotos assim quando enviá-las eu falarei mais sobre isso!

Como nós só tivemos 3 dias dessa semana para trabalhar não conseguimos encontrar ninguém e que foi frustrante! Mas Hermana Sabina está indo bem. Eu a amo e ela realmente cuida bem de nós missionários.

Com Tivorcio, Matilde e Hermalinda ....  foi complicada esta semana. Porque mal os vimos e eles não puderam vir à igreja ontem então tristemente não podemos batizá-los neste domingo .... mas eles são incríveis, apenas teremos que batizá-los na próxima transferência.

Você faz splits com os missionários do CTM daí, os membros e até mesmo o Presidente de Missão?

Sim nós vamos em splits com os missionários e os membros o tempo todo, e nas áreas ao redor da casa do Presidente Ayre's ele faz isso com eles.

Você está fazendo anotações e anotando nomes das autoridades de conferências de zona?

 Sim e não se preocupe todas as anotações que eu tenho de reuniões e de conferências estão todos em um livro. Eu tenho tudo lá dentro. Eu até tenho datas, o que cada coisa é assim que eu estou mantendo tudo muito organizado.

Como você se sente sobre sua missão, almoços e reuniões familiares com membros e pesquisadores?

Fazer coisas com os membros e estar fora na rua conversando com as pessoas é realmente incrível.

Nós estamos fazendo um grande trabalho aqui. Podemos não estar batizando muito, mas é louco ver como nós nos concentramos na Ala no meu tempo aqui. Nós reativamos 3 famílias inteiras na igreja e um par de outras pessoas também.

É tão maravilhoso ver como e quando podemos ajudar alguém. Fazer a noite familiar com os membros é também muito bom, porque eles querem nos ajudar, por isso fazemos isso o tempo todo.

Foto 1 e 2: Eestas são imagens da pensão rica dos outros élderes da nossa zona. Eles vivem na Avenida 9 de Julho, que é como a Times Square de Nova York, mas de Buenos Aires.

Pics 5 e 6: Estas são fotos com dois outros Elderes que fiz divisões esta semana! O mais alto e magro é Elder Monsalve e ele é incrível. Ele é do Chile. Ele é bastante quieto, mas ele é um grande professor. Em seguida, o outro, aquele que está no chão, é Elder Andrade. Ele é do México e ótimo também. Ele é o oposto do Elder Monsalve, mas ele é alto e é realmente uma boa pessoa.

Pics 9 e 10: Esta é a clínica FLENI onde fomos fazer o estudo do sono de Elder Kelly. Esta é a sala de espera e à direita em frente a ela era o corredor onde Elder Kelly estava. Ele estava em um desses quartos. Dormimos no sofá durante toda a noite e ele ficou lá durante todo o estudo das 10 da noite às 6 da manhã do dia seguinte! Não se preocupe que eu cochilei e estudei uma tonelada!

Pic 13 e 14: Por causa das eleições de ontem não pudemos trabalhar. Por isso tivemos permissão para os outros Elderes virem passar a noite conosco na nossa pensão! Foi muito divertido! Os outros Elderes são Elderes Basset e Elder Monsalve. Na outra imagem somos eu e Elder Basset e o braço em cima da nossa cabeça é do meu companheiro, o Élder Kelly.

Pic 15 e 16: Estávamos apenas brincando! Tirando fotos! Elder Basset é da África do Sul, mas mudou-se para a Geórgia, nos EUA, quando ele era jovem. Ele tem TDAH louco por isso às vezes ele é um pouco louco.

I'm gonna try to write everything I can! 

How was your week, dear?

This week was kinda hard. We couldn’t really work a couple days because we didn’t have members and nothing really seemed to go right... we did get a family to go to church though! We have 3 amazing investigators right now! I don’t know how we found them, because nothing really went right this week, but we found a family! The dad is called, Tivorcio, the mom, Matilde, and the 30 year old daughter, Hermalinda. They are all so great and they are like for sure baptisms. It’s crazy because the daughter has pretty much read like a third of the book of Mormon already and we met them on Tuesday! They are all from Paraguay. Oh and the parents can’t read so Hermalinda has been reading to them! How awesome is that?? They are great people and they love us and the church too!

So, Brasil x Argentina was canceled in Buenos Aires because they said a heavy rain destroyed the fields... did you get soaked? Hope not!

Oh yeah we got the rain! Everyone was talking about the game so we knew about it. It was raining like super bad though! What was worse was when we were walking through the villa in about 6 or 8 inches of water! It was all the way up passed my ankles! I dried out my shoes and shined them again so they should be fine, but we were soaked that night! And what sucked even more was that the people we walked through this little flood for did want anything to do with us anymore. But everything’s alright. And Brasil should have won!!

Do the members  tease you because you are a Brazilian/American?

We’ve been hearing about the game for weeks now, everyone talks about it. And yes I do support Brasil so some people say some things but I'm fine, at least Brasil didn’t lose right? And we really keep updated on all Argentine soccer because everyone watches it.

Can you use the pouch to send letters with American stamps? 

No, they aren’t letting us do that anymore, especially now at holiday time because they have stuff to send back too, plus how the president is changing this June I might not get to use the pouch.

Miracles and good moments this week?

One would be with that family I talked about. Whenever we go teach them they literally accept everything we say. They love it and really love our doctrine. One of the best parts this week was when the daughter, Hermalinda, shared one of her favorite scriptures with us that she found while reading the book of Mormon. So that was awesome. It was Mosiah 4 11. Which is a complicated one too.

 "And again I say unto you as I have said before, that as ye have come to the knowledge of the glory of God, or if ye have known of his goodness and have tasted of his love, and have received a remission of your sins, which causeth such exceedingly great joy in your souls, even so I would that ye should remember, and always retain in remembrance, the greatness of God, and your own nothingness, and his goodness and long-suffering towards you, unworthy creatures, and humble yourselves even in the depths of humility, calling on the name of the Lord daily, and standing steadfastly in the faith of that which is to come, which was spoken by the mouth of the angel."

Did you get your deodorant back from last week? That was pretty funny!

Nothing like the deodorant happened last week! But yeah I did get it back. We went down and knocked on the door and this really old woman who smelled like 40 year old cigarettes opened the door and we got it back. And yes we tried to share something with her but she didn’t want anything.

Other than that family nothing happened... it was a crappy week. But we are still going!

Share something you learned this week.

Something I learned this week was something that we got to go do that I haven’t done in a really long time. We got to go to the temple!!! It was so awesome!! In sending pictures later but yeah it was so amazing! I love the temple! That’s something I definitely learned this week, go to the temple as often as you can. Because some people save up years to go just once in their life and some people who live right there don’t go once a month. So yeah, go to the temple! I definitely plan on going to the temple after my mission all the time so yeah!

Yeah I took a selfie in front of the temple! The temple was awesome! It was really pretty outside it too, because honestly... I don't think I've seen flowers for months! But something that's good about Buenos Aires is that there are trees everywhere! I love it!

Eu vou tentar escrever tudo o que puder!

Como foi a sua semana, querido?

Esta semana foi meio difícil. Nós realmente não pudemos trabalhar por vários dias, porque nós não tínhamos membros e nada realmente parecia dar certo ... mas mesmo assim nós conseguimos uma família para ir à igreja! Temos 3 investigadores surpreendentes agora! Eu não sei como nós os encontramos, porque nada realmente deu certo nesta semana, mas encontramos uma família! O pai é chamado, Tivorcio, a mãe, Matilde, e a filha de 30 anos, Hermalinda. Todos eles são tão ótimos e praticamente batismos em potencial com certeza. É uma loucura, porque a filha já leu praticamente um terço do livro de Mórmon e nós somente os conhecemos na terça-feira! Eles são todos do Paraguai. Ah, e os pais não sabem ler então Hermalinda foi lendo para eles! Não é impressionante isso?? Eles são ótimas pessoas e eles amam demais a igreja!

O jogo Brasil x Argentina foi cancelado em Buenos Aires porque eles disseram que uma forte chuva destruiu o gramado ... vocês ficaram encharcados? Espero que não!

Oh yeah pegamos toda a chuva! Todo mundo estava falando sobre o jogo por isso sabíamos sobre ele. Estava chovendo como nunca uma chuva pesadaa! O pior foi quando estávamos andando pela vila com cerca de 6 ou 8 polegadas de água! Por todo o caminho a água batia nos meus tornozelos! Eu sequei meus sapatos e engraxei-os então acredito que estão bons, mas estávamos ensopados naquela noite! E o pior é que andamos tanto para encontrar algumas pessoas através dessa inundação e elas não queriam nada conosco. Mas está tudo bem. E Brasil deveria ter ganhado!!

Os membros tiram muito sarro de você porque você é um brasileiro / americano?

Temos ouvido sobre o jogo há semanas, todo mundo fala sobre isso. E sim, eu apoio Brasil então algumas pessoas dizem algumas coisas, mas estou bem, pelo menos, Brasil não perdeu certo? E nós realmente nos mantemos atualizados sobre tudo de futebol argentino, porque todo mundo assiste.

Você pode usar o correio da casa da missão para enviar cartas com selos americanos?

Não, eles não estão deixando-nos mais fazer isso, especialmente agora em tempo de férias, porque eles têm coisas para enviar de volta também, e como o presidente está mudando em junho do ano que vem eu não poderia começar a usar a bolsa do correio da igreja.

Milagres e bons momentos da semana?

Um deles seria com essa família que eu falei. Sempre que vamos ensinar-lhes eles literalmente aceitam tudo o que dizemos. Eles adoram e realmente amam a nossa doutrina. Uma das melhores partes da semana foi quando a filha, Hermalinda, compartilhou uma de suas escrituras favoritas com a gente que ela encontrou durante a leitura do livro de Mórmon. Então, isso foi incrível. Foi Mosiah 4 11, que é uma escritura complexa também.

Você conseguiu seu desodorante volta da semana passada? Isso foi muito engraçado!

Nada como o desodorante da semana passada aconteceu esta semana! Mas sim, eu consegui-lo de volta. Nós descemos as escadas e batemos na porta e esta mulher de idade que cheirava a 40 maços de cigarros abriu a porta e tivemos que voltar. E sim nós tentamos compartilhar algo com ela, mas ela não queria nada.

Além da família não aconteceu mais nada ... foi uma semana de baixa qualidade. Mas ainda estamos indo!

Algo que eu aprendi esta semana foi algo que nós temos que ir fazer que eu não tinha feito em um tempo muito longo. Nós fomos ao templo !!! Foi tão incrível !! Veja as fotos, mas sim que era tão incrível! Eu amo o templo! Isso é algo que eu definitivamente aprendi esta semana, Vá ao templo tão frequentemente quanto você pode. Porque algumas pessoas guardam dinheiro por anos e podem ir somente uma vez na vida e algumas pessoas que vivem com um templo tão perto vão somente uma vez por mês. Então, sim, vá ao templo! Eu definitivamente planejo ir ao templo depois da minha missão o tempo todo!

I'm 4 months in!

Hello! I'm super tired because I just played like 3 straight hours of soccer outside in the blazing sun so hopefully I'll be able to write ok!

How are you this week?

I’m doing good health wise and everything. I’m just tired right now. This week was a tough week. First because it was pretty hot this week and second because everything just fell through. It was a bad week for us to be honest. We struggled to talk to people and get members all week. For 4 straight days we had no one to accompany us. But we did good; we had a day where we taught like 8, 30 minute lessons! We are working our butt off but we still can’t find people.... we’re planning on fasting soon or doing something different because right now we have nothing.

Did you know that Argentina Buenos Aires North is the very first mission open in South America? 

Yes, I did hear that. That’s actually pretty big down here. They talk about it all the time. In our mission we have the park where an apostle came down and dedicated South America to missionary work. It’s pretty cool. We are also one of the highest baptizing missions in the whole world. And we are also one of the smallest missions in the world. Because you can get from one end of the mission to the other in about 3 hours.

How often will you be able to go to the temple?

We as a mission get to go to the temple 2 times a year. But they go by zones, so what could actually happen is if I get transferred out and the congreso zone, which is the one I’m in right now, goes to the temple I won’t get to go. So it’s just up to what zones go at what times. Like my companion has only been able to go to the temple 2 times and he has been here for 16 months.

About the meeting with the general authorities we get an apostle that comes once a year. Like last year it was Christofferson. This week we actually had President Gonzalez from the area presidency come and talk to us about missionary work and the power that we as elders have. I think he is over like half of South America, but he gave a great talk. His wife gave a great talk to because she was a convert and she shared her story with us.

Anything funny has happened this week?

Nothing really funny happened this week; we did get in trouble though! ;) We have an AC in our pension, which is so nice, but it’s kinda broken. because it leaks outside and apparently its damaging someone’s house and someone else’s stuff... so we got a warning from this really jumpy argentine man... but were good, we actually have a member coming over tonight to fix it which is awesome! only thing that sucks is that he can only come at 6 30 so we are going to lose like an hour of work tonight, and how it takes us like half an hour to get to the villa by bus we can’t really do anything....

Any miracles?

To be honest not really. Our last miracle Lourdes actually went home to the other villa and we hope everything is good with her. She can’t get baptized there though. Because she is pretty much living in the same house as her ex-husband and they are together so she can’t get baptized. But if she moves here she will be living alone so she can. So we are praying for her and we just want to give her the best because she is awesome, we had some great spiritual experiences with her.

Do people ask where you are from? Do they think you are an Argentinian?

Oh yeah people guess where we are from all the time! Elder Kelly is always recognized as an American but not me! I’ve gotten Argentine, to American, and even Brazilian too. And whenever I tell anyone I’m from Brazil or they recognize it they say I look just like Julio Cesar (Brazilian national team golly)! Which is awesome because I love him! Plus it’s kind of hard because the Spanish I speak, half of the time I sound Brazilian but the other half I sound like a Yankee so yeah...

Is there an area too dangerous in your mission that missionaries are not allowed to go?

The most dangerous area in the mission is Jose Lean Suarez which was my companion’s first area, but usually when an area is too dangerous they close it down and the missionaries can’t go in there.

With the heat coming, do you have a fan or something?

Yes we have a fan and an act like I said earlier so we are all good there.

What about your investigators this week?

We don’t have much right now, like I said we are struggling but we have this 17 or 18 year old girl named Aime, and we have this family that we are teaching too, and we encountered them because the husband is brother's with this family in our area. But those 2 are the most promising right now. 

Do the missionaries do any party for new members there like they do in Brazil?

I have no idea to be honest, and usually if there is an activity we won’t know about it till like the day before because it’s too distracting.

Did you already have the opportunity to give any blessings? Even bless homes and families?

Oh yeah we give blessings all the time. I’ve blessed so many homes already that I can’t keep track. I personally have only given 2 blessing of comfort. One to Lourdes and the other to this antiguo investigator named Silvia. But yeah it’s hard because you have to do it in Spanish!

What have you learned this week?

This week I’ve definitely learned the missionary work isn’t all fun and games, and there are some times when it plainly just sucks and you have to start all over. That happened this week but we are still going strong. My testimony of faith and just believing has definitely grown. Especially when it comes down to miracles or investigators literally coming out of the most improbable situations.

This was interesting... let’s play the "find my deodorant that fell out of my window into a bush" game ;) ha-ha yeah that happened when we were trying to fix the AC by ourselves.

These are Elder and Sister Wallace! They are  a couple missionary that have been working in our Ward and they are going home this weekend!!! Their 2 year mission is done! They are going home to Idaho on Friday and they gave us dinner yesterday and it was super good! They are great people! They make it so I can’t wait to have a wife and go on a mission with her! Because when I go on that one I'll have picked my own companion. ;)

Eu estou bem de saúde, só estou cansado agora. E esta semana foi uma semana difícil. Primeiro, porque foi muito quente e, segundo, porque tudo falhou completamente. Foi uma semana ruim para nós, para ser honesto. Temos lutado para falar com as pessoas e obter membros durante toda a semana. Por 4 dias seguidos tínhamos ninguém para nos acompanhar. Mas o que fizemos bem; tivemos um dia onde nós ensinamos 8 lições de 30 minutos cada! Estamos trabalhando muito, mas ainda não conseguimos encontrar pessoas .... estamos planejando em breve um jejum ou fazer algo diferente, porque agora não temos nada.

Você sabia que a Argentina Buenos Aires Norte é a primeira missão aberta na América do Sul?

Sim, eu já ouvi isso. Isso é realmente muito grande aqui no sul. Eles falam sobre isso o tempo todo. Em nossa missão, temos o parque, onde um apóstolo veio à América do Sul dedicar o país à obra missionária. É muito legal. Somos também uma das maiores missões batizando em todo o mundo. E nós também somos um dos menores missões no mundo. Porque você pode viajar a partir de uma extremidade da missão para a outra em cerca de 3 horas.

Quantas vezes você vai ser capaz de ir ao templo?

Nós, como uma missão vamos ao templo 2 vezes por ano. Mas vamos por zonas, por isso, o que realmente pode acontecer é se eu for transferido para fora da Zona Congreso onde estou agora, e esta zona for ao templo eu não vou conseguir ir. Então vai depender das zonas e épocas que vamos. Tal como o meu companheiro só tem sido capaz de ir ao templo 2 vezes e ele está aqui há 16 meses.

Sobre a reunião com as autoridades gerais temos um apóstolo que vem uma vez por ano. Como no ano passado foi Elder Christofferson. E esta semana nós tivemos Presidente Gonzalez da Presidência de Área vir e falar-nos sobre o trabalho missionário e o poder que nós, como élderes temos. Eu acho que ele é presidente de metade da América do Sul, mas ele deu um grande discurso. Sua esposa deu um grande discurso também porque ela é uma convertida e compartilhou sua história com a gente.

Qualquer coisa engraçada aconteceu esta semana?

Nada realmente engraçado aconteceu esta semana, mas aprontamos uma! ;) Temos um Ar condicionado na nossa pensão, que é tão bom, mas é meio quebrado. porque ele vaza fora e aparentemente pinga água danificando a casa de alguém e outras coisas ... por isso temos este homem argentino realmente nervoso veio e nos deu um aviso ... mas é bom, nós realmente temos um membro vindo esta noite para consertar o que é impressionante! A única coisa chata é que ele só pode vir às 6:30 da tarde e por isso perderemos uma hora de trabalho hoje à noite, e como leva tipo meia hora para chegar à vila de ônibus não podemos realmente fazer muita coisa. ...

Algum milagre?

Para ser honesto, não realmente. Nosso último milagre Lourdes, na verdade, foi para casa na outra villa e nós esperamos que tudo esteja bem com ela. Ela não pode ser batizada, porque ela está praticamente vivendo na mesma casa que seu ex-marido e estão juntos, então ela não pode ser batizada. Mas se ela se mudar pra cá ela estará vivendo sozinha, daí poderá. Então, nós estamos orando por ela e nós só queremos proporcionar a ela o melhor, porque ela é incrível, tivemos alguns grandes experiências espirituais com ela.

As pessoas perguntam de onde você é? Alguém já lhe confundiu com um argentino?

Ah sim! As pessoas querem adivinhar de onde somos o tempo todo! Elder Kelly é sempre reconhecido como um americano, mas não eu! Primeiro acham que sou argentino, depois americano, e até mesmo do Brasil também. E sempre que eu conto a alguém que eu sou do Brasil ou eles reconhecem ou dizem que eu pareço com o Julio Cesar (goleiro da seleção)! Que é incrível, porque eu o amo! Além disso, é meio difícil porque o que eu falo espanhol, metade do tempo eu soo como brasileiro, mas a outra metade eu soo como um Yankee então sim ...

Existe uma área muito perigosa na sua missão que os missionários não estão autorizados a ir?

A área mais perigosa a missão é Jose Lean Suarez que foi a primeira área do meu companheiro, mas geralmente quando uma área é muito perigosa, eles fecham e os missionários não podem entrar lá.

Com o calor que está chegando, vocês têm um ventilador ou algo assim?

Sim, temos um ventilador e um ar condicionado como eu disse mais cedo portanto, estamos bem lá.

E quanto aos seus investigadores nesta semana?

Não temos muito agora, como eu disse, estamos lutando, mas temos esta garota de 17 ou 18 anos de idade chamada Aime, e nós temos essa família que estamos ensinando também, e os encontramos porque o marido é irmão com esta família em nossa área. Mas os dois são os mais promissores no momento.

Os missionários ajudam a preparar festas de integração para membros novos como fazem no Brasil?

Eu não tenho idéia para ser honesto, e, geralmente, se há uma atividade na Ala, só sabemos disso no dia anterior, porque pode nos distrair muito.

Você já teve a oportunidade de dar bênçãos? E sobre abençoar lares e famílias?

Ah sim damos bênçãos o tempo todo! Eu tenho abençoado tantas casas que eu já perdi a conta. Eu, pessoalmente, só dei duas bênçãos de conforto. Uma a Lourdes e outra para esta investigadora chamada Silvia. Mas sim é difícil porque você tem que fazê-lo em espanhol!

O que você aprendeu esta semana?

Esta semana eu definitivamente aprendi que o trabalho missionário não é somente diversão e brincadeiras. Há alguns momentos em que claramente são muito difíceis e você tem que começar tudo de novo. Isso aconteceu esta semana, mas ainda estamos indo forte. Meu testemunho, fé e acreditar cresceu com certeza. Especialmente quando se trata de milagres ou investigadores literalmente surgindo de situações mais improváveis.

4 e 5 - Este é Elder e Sister Wallace! Eles são um casal missionário que têm trabalhado em nossa ala e eles estão indo para casa neste fim de semana !!! Sua missão de 2 anos está cumprida! Eles estão indo para sua casa para Idaho na sexta-feira e eles nos serviram o jantar ontem e foi super bom! Eles são ótimas pessoas! Eles me convenceram de forma que eu não posso esperar para ter uma esposa e ir em uma missão com ela! Porque quando eu for com ela sou eu que serei capaz de escolher "meu próprio companheiro", ;)

Week 3 of my second transfer

Hello! It's been an up and down week, but we're still going!

Tell us how was your week and how are you doing?

I had an alright week, it's been like the worst and most surprising week I've had on my mission so far. Because all week I've been kind of sick. On Monday through Wednesday was the worst because i was throwing up and stuff but now I’m better from that. it was also a really tough week because our members that were going to accompany us fell through a lot this week so we were limited to going around and talking to inactive because they don’t want us working without the members.

Talk about the members you went to have dinner this week in their homes. How do they receive you? How are their families? What they normally cook for you? Tell us about ward member you've got to know better...

It’s pretty sweet when we have lunch, on Sundays we have this member named Talia that goes around and sets up lunches for us for the whole week. so we show up at their houses and they feed us. Usually we stay and talk and eat for the hour that we have for lunch. They really do different things for us to eat. We get rice with Milanese, pasta, meat, and things like that. 

How is your health?

I'm fine now, like i said earlier i was a little sick but now I’m good. it’s just starting to get hot now so it just makes you more and more tired!

Tell us something funny that happened.

Something funny that happened this week was when i got to see elder yeoman! haha he was the same as I last saw him just 30 pounds heavier! it was just pretty funny to see him because he’s in the place where there are lots of people from Peru and their food is amazing! I’m going to try to get a picture with him if i can because he was my first companion!

What about a miracle or a moment you recognized the hand of God?

We had a really great miracle happen to us this week! We were walking around the villa on Tuesday trying to figure out what to do. Because we ran out of references and people to go visit so we were getting ready to go door knocking, which is not very effective, when a member who hardly never gives us references called us on our phone? And he says, hey come over to my house right now because my prima is here and she wants to hear the gospel. What a miracle right? We went over and she really just accepted everything and was awesome! She came to church yesterday too. The only thing that’s a little challenge with her is that she’s kind of in trouble. Like there might be people following her.... it’s scary i know but what she’s been through has been crazy. because she used to live in this other villa but then she moved and is now living with the family Paredes in our ward, and she moved out of that other villa because her ex-husband and son are in charge of the drug trade in that villa.... yeah... and this other group of people who are trying to become in charge of the drug trade wants to like find her or something.... it’s crazy it’s like some grand theft auto type stuff so we are praying for her so much because she is scared right now. Her name is Lourdes, or Lurdes, I don’t know its French but she’s like 50 something years old and she’s awesome. She really is an amazing person and i would like it if you kept her in your prayers!

What kind of transportation you use?

We use the subtle, which is the subway, and we use the colectivos, the buses, a lot. we have to ride on a bus every day to get to the villa for half an hour. And whenever we have anything to do with the zone or district meetings once a week we take the subway. And when we go to the offices, in San Fernando, we have to take the train to get there and that’s like an hour and a half trip! oh and we are also not allowed to be driven by members, but that’s not really a problem because no one has a car in our area.

What about the Ward, Stake and even your bishop's names?

I'm not sure on the names or my bishops name... I just know we go to the chapel called La Boca and my zone in the mission is Congreso. Like my area is constitution 1 but my zone is Congreso. And no not really because he works a lot. Oh and his name is like Casareago or something like that.

The mission is going good. I don’t have much time to right now though. Because remember how I told you me and my companion have to go to choir now? I think I told you.... but we have to do that and we have to go during p day too. so we lose like 5 or 6 hours of our 8 hour p day now so I don’t have much time to write at all anymore! so that’s gonna be rough. But it’s going good. If anything I’ve definitely noticed that the mission builds up your own personal faith and conversion. Just because you see so much crap and you see people who just live messed up lives with all the drugs and alcohol. but you really see the power of the gospel and what it has in peoples lives and i think that’s pretty cool!

Olá, tem sido uma semana de altos e baixos, mas continuamos seguindo!

Conte-nos como foi sua semana e como você está.

Foi uma semana mais ou menos, mas foi a pior e mais repleta de surpresas desde que estou na minha missão, porque fiquei doente de segunda até quarta que foi o pior porque estava vomitando e tudo mais, mas agora estou melhor daquilo. Foi também difícil porque vários de nossos membros que nos acompanhariam desmarcaram então ficamos limitados porque para irmos nas casas dos menos ativos não podemos sem os membros.

Conte-nós sobre os membros da sua área que vocês normalmente vão almoçar, como eles os recebem? Como são suas famílias e o que normalmente eles cozinham pra você?

É muito bom quando temos almoço. Nós temos essa membro chamada Talia que marca os almoços pra nós para a semana inteira, então já vamos nas casas das pessoas que nos servem almoco. Normalmente sentamos e conversamos durante a hora que temos de almoço. Eles realmente cozinham diferentes coisas para comermos, como arroz com milanesas, macarrão, carne e outras coisas desse tipo.

Como está sua saúde?

Estou bem agora, como eu disse, eu estava meio doente, mas estou melhor. Só que agora está esquentando então ficamos mais e mais cansados.

Conte-nos algo engraçado que aconteceu.

Algo engraçado que aconteceu é que eu consegui ver Elder Yeoman! A mesma pessoa que conheci antes, só que 15 kilos mais pesado! Foi engraçado vê-lo, porque ele está nesse lugar onde há muitos peruanos e a comida é incrível! Eu vou tentar tirar uma foto com ele da próxima vez, porque ele foi meu primeiro companheiro!

Conte-nos um milagre ou um momento que você percebeu a mão do Senhor.

Nós tivemos um grande milagre essa semana. Estávamos caminhando na Villa terça, tentando encontrar alguém, porque tínhamos esgotado as referências e estávamos nos preparando para bater portas, o que não é muito efetivo, quando um membro nos ligou, um que não nos liga ou nunca nos deu referências, dizendo “Venham a minha casa agora, porque tenho uma prima aqui que quer conhecer o evangelho!” Um milagre não é?! Então, nós fomos e ela simplesmente quis ouvir e aceitou e gostou de tudo! Ela até foi à igreja ntem! O único problema é que ela está em apuros, tipo, ela morava nessa outra vila de onde ela mudou e agora está vivendo com a família Paredes de nossa Ala, e ela acha que está sendo perseguida. Parece que o ex marido dela e o filho são os chefes do tráfico de drogas e querem encontrá-la ou algo assim. É louco porque tem roubo envolvido, então estamos orando por ela porque ela está muito assustada. O nome dela é Lurdes, e ela tem em torno de 50 anos e é ótima, realmente uma pessoa incrível, e eu gostaria que vocês orassem por ela e a mantenham em suas orações!

Que tipo de transporte vocês usam?

Usamos o subterrâneo, que é o metrô, e os coletivos, os ônibus, um monte. Temos que pegar um ônibus por mais de meia hora para ir à vila toods od sias. E sempre que temos atividades de zona ou distrituo uma vez por semana, pegamos o metrô,  equando vamos ao escritório em San Fernando, vamos de trem porque é uma viagem de uma hora e meia. Não somos permitidos pegar carona com os membros, mas isso não é problema porque na nossa área ninguém tem carro.

E sobre a Ala e Estaca, quem é seu bispo?

Não tenho certeza dos nomes, mas nossa capela é La Boca, e minha zona é Congreso. Minha área é Constitución 1. Eu acho que o bispo é Casariego ou algo assim, mas não o vemos muito porque ele trabalha muito.

Eu e meu companheiro temos que ir ao escritório várias vezes porque meu companheiro está cantando no coral e gastamos tipo 5 horas das 6 horas que temos de p-day indo e voltando de trem e no ensaio, então nem tempo de escrever muito tenho mais! Então está difícil, mas está tudo bem. Se há algo que eu definitivamente percebi é que a missão constrói sua fé pessoal e conversão, porque há tanta desgraça que você vê na vida das pessoas cheias de problemas, e também com drogas e álcool, mas quando vemos o poder do evangelho e o que faz na vida das pessoas é super maravilhoso!
