Progressing!

Hello!

I’m extremely shocked by the passing of our friend Steven Soderborg. All the great memories I have from their family and him every time I used to go to Micheal’s house to play and for Scouts when we were growing up, he was always smiling and we had great conversations. I send all my love to the Soderborg family and I’m praying for them, for Elder Soderborg, for Steven. I love and miss them! Families are forever!

What a week full of ups and downs! We literally started off the week really bad. No one wanted to progress! We kept working and Saturday was just full of miracles. We found new people to teach, we had someone who we met Saturday come to church too. Miracles are real! wooo! :D

I’ve loved to see how the Lord blesses his missionaries. I honestly feel like we are protected and blessed when we are obedient and do what’s right. I’ve seen so many blessings on my mission and this week we’ve seen many miracles. Lately it’s been a little stressful because, when I talked to our President, he wants us to work in Jose C Paz 2 as well, so our area just doubled in size! Plus, we have 2 wards now so that’s complicated... but oh well, we can do it!

This week we had the opportunity to meet and listen to Elder Teixeira speak! Elder Teixeira is the President of South America South Area and he is from Portugal! I spoke to him and his accent in Portuguese is awesome, but I’ve always liked him and when I heard he was coming I was super happy. I hope he becomes an apostle someday or something. He came and talked to us about the mission and about helping out the members. He also gave us great ideas to find people through the members that we are starting to apply in our area!

We are currently helping a guy called Alejandro who quit smoking just a couple days after we met him! He is awesome but we hope to keep finding and helping out more people! We are also helping out Alexis, he is great and wants to keep learning more! We found out his mom is a less active member and his sister is interested too, but thank you so much for everything!

Honestly nothing really happened this week apart from everything I’ve already told you! jaja but today we do have a really fun day planned! We are going to go play soccer, ping pong, and we are going to make pizzas! Woo! Oh and we’re going to start waking up early to go to the church and play soccer every day! So that’s going to be really awesome!

This week I want to talk about Jacob 4:6-7. When Elder Teixeira came he shared this scripture with us. It says:

6 Wherefore, we search the prophets, and we have many revelations and the spirit of prophecy; and having all these witnesses we obtain a hope, and our faith becometh unshaken, insomuch that we truly can command in the name of Jesus and the very trees obey us, or the mountains, or the waves of the sea.

 7 Nevertheless, the Lord God showeth us our weakness that we may know that it is by his grace, and his great condescension unto the children of men, that we have power to do these things.

If we have enough faith anything is possible, but only if it’s the will of the Lord. Elder Teixeira talked to us about how we need to always have faith in everything we do. He shared a quote from Elder Holland also when he said,

"No one has failed, who keeps trying and keeps praying."

I honestly love that quote and it’s definitely true. He invited us to pray more and never give up. I want to invite everyone to do this too! because I have seen the power of prayer on my mission. I know that if it’s either a short or long prayer, the Lord will listen, because He listens to your heart. I’ve had so many prayers answered on my mission and I honestly know of its power.

We have a gift to be able to talk to our Heavenly Father and some of us sometimes forget about that gift. When we receive our answers, or miracles, we must always be grateful and realize that it wasn’t our doing, it was from the Lord. We must always be humble. That’s definitely something I have learned here on the mission. If we are humble, and always put the Lord’s will first, our faith will grow, and each of us individually will grow as well.

Pics 7 to 9 – Here’s us playing a little bit of ping pong! The others are from la Familia Torres; we are working with them a lot right now because they don’t have lots of members that live around them! So we are teaching and helping out a couple of their neighbors.

Estou extremamente chocado com o falecimento do nosso amigo Steven Soderborg. Todas as grandes memórias que tenho de sua família e ele toda vez que ia à casa de Michael para brincar ou para os Escoteiros quando estávamos crescendo, ele estava sempre sorrindo e tinhamos grandes conversas. Eu envio todo o meu amor à Família Soderborg e estou orando por eles, por Elder Soderborg, por Steven. Eu amo e sinto falta deles! Familias sao para sempre!

Esta foi uma semana cheia de altos e baixos! Nós, literalmente, começamos a semana muito ruim. Ninguém queria progredir! Nós continuamos trabalhando e sábado foi um dia repleto de milagres. Encontramos novas pessoas para ensinar, tivemos alguém que nós conhecemos sábado que veio à igreja também. Milagres são reais! wooo! : D

Eu aprecio ver como o Senhor abençoa seus missionários. Sinceramente, sinto que estamos protegidos e abençoados quando somos obedientes e fazemos o que é certo fazer. Eu tenho visto tantas bênçãos em minha missão e esta semana temos visto muitos milagres.

Ultimamente tem sido um pouco estressante porque, quando eu falei com nosso presidente, ele quer-nos a trabalhar em Jose C Paz 2, bem como, por isso a nossa área apenas dobrou de tamanho! Além disso, temos 2 alas de modo que agora é complicado ... mas tudo bem, nós podemos fazê-lo!

Esta semana tivemos a oportunidade de conhecer e ouvir o Élder Teixeira falar! Elder Teixeira é o presidente da América do Sul Área Sul e ele é de Portugal! Falei com ele e seu sotaque em Português é muito bom, mas eu sempre gostei dele e quando soube que ele estava vindo eu fiquei super feliz. Espero que ele se torne um dia apóstolo ou algo assim. Ele veio e falou-nos sobre a missão e sobre ajudar os membros. Ele também nos deu grandes ideias para encontrar pessoas através dos membros que estamos começando a aplicar na nossa área!

No momento, estamos ajudando um homem chamado Alejandro que parou de fumar dois dias depois que o conhecemos! Ele é impressionante, mas esperamos continuar encontrando e ajudando mais pessoas! Também estamos ajudando Alexis, ele é otimo e quer continuar a aprender mais! Descobrimos que sua mãe é um membro menos ativo e sua irmã está interessada também, mas muito obrigado por tudo!

Honestamente nada mais aconteceu esta semana além de tudo o que eu já escrevi! jaja mas hoje nós temos realmente um dia divertido planejado! Estamos indo jogar futebol, ping pong, e fazer pizzas! Woo! Ah, e vamos começar a acordar cedo para ir à igreja e jogar futebol todos os dias! Então isso vai ser realmente incrível!

Esta semana eu quero falar sobre Jacó 4: 6-7. Élder Teixeira compartilhou esta escritura com a gente. Diz:

6 Portanto, estudamos os profetas e temos muitas revelações e o espírito de profecia; e com todos estes testemunhos obtemos uma esperança e nossa fé torna-se inabalável, de sorte que podemos verdadeiramente ordenar em nome de Jesus e as próprias árvores ou as montanhas ou as ondas do mar nos obedecem.

 7 Não obstante, o Senhor Deus mostra-nos as nossas fraquezas a fim de que saibamos que é por sua graça e sua grande condescendência para com os filhos dos homens que temos poder para fazer estas coisas.

Se temos suficiente fé tudo é possível, mas apenas se for a vontade do Senhor. Elder Teixeira falou conosco sobre como precisamos sempre ter fé em tudo o que fazemos. Ele compartilhou uma citação do Élder Holland também quando ele disse:

"Ninguém falha, quando continua tentando e se mantém orando."

Eu sinceramente amo essa citação e é definitivamente verdadeira. Ele nos convidou a orar mais e nunca desistir. Quero convidar a todos para fazer isso também porque eu vejo o poder da oração na minha missão. Eu sei que seja ela uma oração curta ou longa, o Senhor vai ouvir, porque Ele escuta seu coração. Eu tive tantas orações respondidas em minha missão e eu honestamente sei de seu poder.

Temos um presente ao sermos capazes de falar com nosso Pai Celestial e alguns de nós, por vezes, esquecemos esse presente. Quando recebemos as nossas respostas, ou milagres, devemos ser sempre gratos e perceber que não era a nossa vontade, mas do Senhor. Devemos ser sempre humildes. Isso é definitivamente algo que eu aprendi aqui na missão. Se formos humildes, e sempre colocarmos o Senhor em primeiro lugar, a nossa fé vai crescer, e cada um de nós, individualmente, vai crescer bem.

This has been a long, tiring week, but now as I look back on it we were really blessed. We honestly didn’t find that many new people this week, but people who we’ve been working with for a while now are starting to progress! I’m happy to say I’m spiritually tired after this week, but I can’t wait for more! I have seen people’s lives being affected by the Book of Mormon and it’s something that I personally want to do more too. I want to use the Book of Mormon more while I teach because it is really powerful. It really invites the Spirit into a lesson and into someone’s life when you just start reading it with them.

Well our transfer day is today and guess what, me and Elder Scarber are staying together!  Yesterday we had the chance to go to the President’s house and have an interview with him. I am so happy that after like 3 months of him being our new president I was finally able to talk to him! It was great just sitting down and talking to him about my mission and my life. President Smith is a really good President and he is starting to change things here. He also wants to put a bigger focus on the Book of Mormon!

Thank you so much for all the prayers for our investigators. We are honestly starting to work with a couple families right now because the family is one of the biggest and most important things in this Gospel, right? We are working with the families Egel y Schab, Rios, Lillo, Arrua, and Los Santos. We are also working with a guy named Carlos and another named Alexis. We are blessed right now with so many investigators and I’m happy we can help them all progress in the gospel.

We have a busy day today because we are going to go to the bank, buy my companion a pen drive, go play soccer, then we have to go buy food for the week so we don’t have much time… I know right? We never have time at all! And this week we can already see we will be busy! We have lots of things already planned and we hope everything goes great this week. Tomorrow we also have President Teixeira coming to talk to us!! He is the president of Sudamerica Sur area! I really like him and I can’t wait to listen to him in the morning!

Something really funny that happened this week is something that I did last night. When we have transfers we get called at night time and we are told what’s going to happen. So yesterday when the zone leaders called I told my companion, Elder Scarber, that I was leaving! jajajaja He started freaking out and worrying about everything, I kept this going for like 20 minutes then at 10:30 I laid in bed saying I was going to go to sleep, and then he looked at me and said, "aren’t you going to pack?" I started laughing really hard! java He was mad at me for a little bit but we spend all night laughing about it! I got him good! jajajajajaja

I also would like to share something this week in Alma 57: 25, 27. These verses are talking about the 2000 stripling warriors, it says:

25 And it came to pass that there were two hundred, out of my two thousand and sixty, who had fainted because of the loss of blood; nevertheless, according to the goodness of God, and to our great astonishment, and also the joy of our whole army, there was not one soul of them who did perish; yea, and neither was there one soul among them who had not received many wounds.

 27 Now this was the faith of these of whom I have spoken; they are young, and their minds are firm, and they do put their trust in God continually.

Something that really stood out to me is the part where it says, "... and neither was there one soul among them who had not received many wounds." 

The part "many wounds" is something that really got me thinking. Us as members of the Church can have all the faith and trust in God, but that doesn’t mean we won’t go through trials. Trials sometimes so hard that we might even "faint”, in a matter of speaking. The more we learn about God and the more faith we have, the harder our trials are going to be. That’s definitely something I have seen out here on my mission. 

I can testify to you all that we need to keep persevering until the end, that we shouldn’t give up when it gets hard, or when we don’t have the time, or when no one is coming with us. We have to remember that we are never alone, and that Jesus suffered for all of us, for me and for you! I know He loves me and I’m grateful He gives me the opportunity through His Atonement to repent for my sins... I know He lives, and I know we are in the truth!

Esta foi uma longa e cansativa semana, mas agora quando olho para trás, fomos muito abençoados. Nós honestamente não encontramos muitas pessoas novas esta semana, mas as pessoas que estamos ajudando por um tempo agora estão começando a progredir! Estou feliz em dizer que estou espiritualmente cansado depois de esta semana, mas eu mal posso esperar por mais disso tudo! 

Eu tenho visto a vida das pessoas ser transformadas pelo Livro de Mórmon e isso é algo que eu, pessoalmente, quero fazer mais também. Eu quero usar o Livro de Mórmon mais enquanto eu ensino porque é realmente poderoso. Realmente convida o Espírito a uma aula e na vida de alguém quando você começa a lê-lo com eles.

Bem o nosso dia de transferência é hoje e adivinhem, eu e Elder Scarber ficaremos juntos! Ontem tivemos a oportunidade de ir à casa do Presidente e ter uma entrevista com ele. Estou tão feliz que depois de uns 3 meses de ele ser o nosso novo presidente finalmente fui capaz de falar com ele! Foi ótimo apenas sentar e conversar com ele sobre a minha missão e minha vida. Presidente Smith é um presidente muito bom e ele está começando a mudar as coisas aqui. Ele também quer colocar um foco maior sobre o Livro de Mórmon!

Muito obrigado por todas as orações para os nossos investigadores. Estamos sinceramente trabalhando com algumas famílias agora, porque a família é uma das maiores e mais importantes coisas neste Evangelho, certo? Estamos a trabalhar com as famílias Egel y Schab, Rios, Lillo, Arrúa, e Los Santos. Também estamos trabalhando com um rapaz chamado Carlos e outro chamado Alexis. Somos abençoados agora com tantos investigadores e estou feliz que podemos ajudá-los a progredir no evangelho.

Teremos um dia agitado hoje, porque nós estamos indo para ir ao banco, comprar uma pen drive para o meu companheiro, vamos jogar futebol, e ainda temos que ir comprar comida para a semana assim nós não temos muito tempo ... Eu sei certo? Nós nunca temos tempo o bastante! E esta semana já podemos ver que será ocupada! Nós temos muitas coisas já programadas e esperamos que tudo vai muito bem esta semana. 

Amanhã temos também Presidente Teixeira que vem falar com a gente!! Ele é o presidente da área Sul da America do Sul! Eu realmente gosto dele e eu mal posso esperar para ouvi-lo na parte da manhã!

Algo realmente engraçado que aconteceu esta semana é algo que eu fiz ontem à noite. Quando temos transferências recebemos a chamada durante a noite e nos dizem o que vai acontecer. Então ontem, quando os líderes de zona nos telefonaram, eu disse ao meu companheiro, o Élder Scarber, que eu estava sendo transferido! jajajaja Ele começou a surtar e se preocupar com tudo, eu mantive isto indo tipo uns 20 minutos, e em seguida, às 10:30 eu deitei na cama dizendo que eu estava indo dormir, e então ele olhou para mim e disse: " Você não vai arrumar as malas? " Eu comecei a rir muito! jajaja Ele ficou meio bravo comigo por uns minutos, mas passamos a noite toda rindo sobre isso! Eu consegui pregar-lhe uma! Jajajajajaja

Eu também gostaria de compartilhar algo esta semana em Alma 57: 25, 27. Estes versiculos estão falando sobre os 2000 jovens guerreiros de Helama, que diz:

25 E aconteceu que duzentos de meus dois mil e sessenta haviam desmaiado em virtude da perda de sangue; não obstante, de acordo com a bondade de Deus e para nossa grande surpresa e também para alegria de todo nosso exército, nenhum deles perecera; sim, e não houve entre eles um só que não tivesse recebido muitos ferimentos.

 

 27 Ora, era esta a fé possuída por aqueles de quem falei; eles são jovens, de opinião firme, e depositam continuamente sua confiança em Deus.

A parte "muitas feridas" é algo que realmente me fez pensar. Nós, como membros da Igreja podemos ter toda a fé e confiança em Deus, mas isso não significa que não iremos passar por desafios. E estes desafios, por vezes, são tão  difíceis que poderíamos até "desmaiar", em questão de falar. Quanto mais aprendemos sobre Deus e quanto mais fé temos, mais difíceis nossos desafios serão. Isso é definitivamente algo que eu vejo e vivo aqui na minha missão.

Posso testemunhar a vocês que tudo o que precisamos e nos manter perseverantes até o fim, que não devemos desistir quando torna-se difícil, ou quando não temos tempo, ou quando ninguém está vindo com a gente. Temos de lembrar que nunca estamos sozinhos, e que Jesus sofreu por todos nós, para mim e para você! Eu sei que Ele me ama e eu sou grato que Ele me dá a oportunidade por meio de Sua Expiação de me arrepender dos meus pecados ... Eu sei que Ele vive, e eu sei que estamos na verdade!
