Experiences to never forget

Hello!

This was a good week but also kind of bad, because our members cancelled on us like every day, but other than that it was a good week for us.

Oh yeah, and my new companion Elder de Avila is a total gaucho! He is like a cowboy but a Brasilero cowboy! He listens to Brazilian country music too, which is like accordion music. It’s kind of weird but… oh well. My new companion is super tranquilo and he is a good teacher. He knows the rules and the lessons like in the back of his hand. He is also super smart, he is going to be a doctor when he gets back home. Elder de Avila is great and I can’t wait to keep working with him, he is really scared to work in the villa so that makes some days hard for us.... but we’ve been getting through it. The villa isn’t that bad, he has just had a bad experience in his last area. Plus this is his first villa so he doesn’t like it that much. So I’m gonna help him like it, cause I love the villa! It’s great!

About the baptisms… Uhh..... YES!!!! We actually had 2 baptisms yesterday! Because her husband Tivurcio, I don’t know if I told you this, but he was going to go to Paraguay on Friday. But when he found out that his wife was getting baptized this Sunday… ya, he changed his plans because he wanted to be baptized with her! And honestly the baptism was SO good! They looked pretty cute too, because the whole time they were holding hands and talking about how this marks a new beginning for them and everything like that. So when we found that out we were really happy.

When the time came to choose who was going to baptize them, Tivurcio chose his good friend Vicente Ayala, because he has been a member for the past 10 years, and we recently reactivated him. Vicente is amazing, he is just a great guy that loves to serve others especially us, the missionaries. When it came time for Matilde to choose who she wanted she looked at me... she smiled and pointed with her finger saying, "yo quiero Elder Ayres, porgue el y el otro (elder Kelly) son los que cambiaron nuestras vidas...". At that moment I was so happy! Matilde was my favorite out of that family (sorry ;)) but when she said that, I wanted to give her a huge hug! But we can’t cause were missionaries!

Uhhh. But the baptisms went great, they loved it! When I baptized Matilde I had to do it twice tho! Because I forgot to tell her to tuck her hair in so her hair didn’t go under the water! But then she tucked it in and I performed the baptism again, it was so great. Because that’s why I’m here. To help people come closer to Christ, to help them see things that they couldn’t see before like having an eternal family! In one year Matilde y Tivurcio can get sealed in the temple! How great is that!

About the Christmas Skype thing, yeah I have no idea about that, and we can’t figure it out either because we gotta work, like president doesn’t want us even thinking about it so I’ll let you know when I can! Sorry!

Elder de Avila is great, and yes, his family does send him stuff. He says not many members in his family are members. Plus he said that when he gets home, he is going to baptize his dad so that’s pretty exciting for him!

I haven’t (get the members and baptized members addresses) yet, yo olvide perdon! And sorry if I throw in some Spanish sometimes because now how I don’t talk English anymore I’m constantly thinking in Spanish! I’ll try to figure that out, alright? 

That’s pretty cool (that you have studied about missionary work)! And this week, I think I want to focus on attributes of Christ, like obedience, charity, etc.

I realized something this week that I’d like to talk about. Something I’ve definitely learned this far into my mission is the importance of personal study. As missionaries we usually have an hour of personal study each morning, to get spiritually prepared for the day! But in the last couple weeks I had together with elder Kelly, we were so busy doing stuff in the morning that we averaged like maybe one personal study a week! And honestly, before this happened I didn’t like personal study, because I’d be super tired and just want to go back to bed. I never did but it was tough.

The first couple days when Elder Kelly and I didn’t have personal study I thought it was okay, but after a while I could see what was happening. Elder Kelly and I were struggling teaching, getting in the mood to contact random people in the street, things like that. And we struggled. That’s when I learned the importance of personal study. And now, I study hard every morning. Even tho my new companion hates studying I’m going strong, because I know that personal study is the time you need to prepare yourself for the day. The time when you ask yourself what am I going to do today? Or how can this scripture I just found help someone else? I love personal study! And I could never picture myself saying that before! So I want to invite everyone to do your personal study every day!

Tivurcio and Matilde looked so cute! They are amazing people and I’m so glad I got the opportunity to baptize Matilde, she is an amazing person and she is going to be a great member, same with Tivurcio.

Esta foi uma boa semana, mas também meio ruim, porque os nossos membros cancelaram alguns horários quase todos os dias, mas no geral foi uma boa semana para nós.

Ah sim, e meu novo companheiro Elder de Avila é um gaucho total! Ele é como um cowboy, mas um cowboy brasileiro! Ele ouve música sertaneja também, que é como música de acordeão. É meio estranho mas ... tudo bem. Meu novo companheiro é super tranquilo e ele é um bom professor. Ele conhece as regras e as lições de cor e salteado. Ele também é super inteligente, ele vai ser um médico quando ele voltar para casa. Elder de Avila é ótimo e eu não posso esperar para continuar a trabalhar com ele. Ele está realmente com medo de trabalhar nas favelas que visitamos, as vilas, e isso faz com que alguns dias se tornem difíceis para nós .... mas temos superado isso. A Villa não é tão ruim, ele apenas teve uma experiência ruim em sua última área. Além disso, esta é a sua primeira vila por isso ele não gosta muito. Então, eu vou ajudá-lo como ele, porque eu amo as Villas! É ótimo!

Sobre os batismos ... Uhh ..... SIM !!!! Na verdade, tivemos 2 batismos ontem! Porque o marido Tivurcio, eu não sei se eu lhe disse isso, mas ele estava indo viajar ao Paraguai na sexta-feira, mas quando ele descobriu que sua esposa estava sendo batizada neste domingo ... ya, ele mudou seus planos, porque ele queria ser batizado com ela! E, honestamente, o batismo foi tão bom! Eles estavam muito bonitos também, porque o tempo todo eles estavam de mãos dadas e conversando sobre como isso marca um novo começo para eles e tudo mais assim. Então, quando nós os encontramos todos nós estávamos realmente felizes.

Quando chegou a hora de escolher quem iria batizá-los, Tivurcio escolheu seu bom amigo Vicente Ayala, porque ele é membro durante os últimos 10 anos, e foi um que recentemente reativamos. Vicente é incrível, ele é apenas um grande cara que gosta de servir os outros, especialmente nós, os missionários. Quando chegou a hora de Matilde para escolher quem ela queria, ela olhou para mim ... ela sorriu e apontou com o dedo dizendo: "yo quiero Elder Ayres, porgue el y el otro (Elder Kelly) fueram los que cambiaron nuestras vidas .. . ". Naquele momento eu fiquei tão feliz! Matilde foi a minha favorita daquela família (desculpe ;) ), mas quando ela disse isso, eu queria dar-lhe um grande abraço! Mas não podemos porque somos missionários!

Uhhh. Mas os batismos foram ótimos, eles adoraram! Quando eu batizei Matilde, eu tive que fazer isso duas vezes! Porque eu esqueci de dizer a ela para prender seu cabelo e colocar dentro do macacão e o cabelo boiou e ficou fora da água! Mas então ela colocou o cabelo dentro da roupa e eu a batizei novamente, foi tão incrível!

Porque é por isso que estou aqui. Para ajudar as pessoas a se achegarem a Cristo, para ajudá-los ver as coisas que eles não poderiam ver antes, como ter uma família eterna! Em um ano Matilde y Tivurcio poderão se selar no templo! Como isso é maravilhoso!

Sobre a ligação no Natal com Skype, sim eu não tenho nenhuma ideia sobre isso, e nós não podemos descobrir isso ou porque temos que trabalhar, e o presidente não quer que nós sequer pensemos nisso, então eu vou deixar você saber quando eu descobrir, ok! Desculpa!

Elder de Avila é ótimo, e sim, sua família envia coisas a ele. Ele diz que não muitos de sua família são membros. Além disso, ele disse que quando ele chegar em casa, ele irá batizar seu pai, de modo que é muito emocionante para ele!

Eu não consegui (obter os endereços de membros e membros batizados), no entanto, yo olvide perdon! E desculpe se eu misturar com um pouco de espanhol, por vezes, porque agora como eu não falo Inglês mais eu estou constantemente pensando em espanhol! Vou tentar descobrir isso, tudo bem?

Isso é muito legal (que você tem estudado sobre a obra missionária)! E esta semana, eu acho que eu quero focar em atributos de Cristo, como obediência, caridade, etc.

Eu percebi algo esta semana que eu gostaria de falar sobre. Algo que eu definitivamente aprendi até aqui em minha missão é a importância do estudo pessoal. Como missionários geralmente temos uma hora de estudo pessoal a cada manhã, para nos prepararmos espiritualmente para o dia! Mas nas últimas semanas que tive junto com Elder Kelly, estávamos tão ocupados fazendo coisas na parte da manhã que nós tivemos somente talvez um estudo pessoal em uma semana! E honestamente, antes que isso acontecesse eu não gostava de estudo pessoal, porque eu estava super cansado ​​e só queria voltar para a cama. Eu nunca fiz, mas foi difícil.

Os primeiros dois dias quando Élder Kelly e eu não tivemos estudo pessoal eu pensei que estava tudo bem, mas depois de um tempo eu podia ver o que estava acontecendo. Elder Kelly e eu estávamos tendo dificuldades para ensinar, não conseguíamos contatar ou entrar em contato com pessoas aleatórias na rua, coisas assim. E lutamos. Foi quando eu aprendi a importância do estudo pessoal. E agora, eu estudar muito todas as manhãs. Mesmo que meu novo companheiro odeie estudar, estou firme e forte, porque eu sei que o estudo pessoal é o tempo que você precisa para se preparar para o dia. O momento em que você pergunta a si mesmo o que eu vou fazer hoje? Ou, como pode essa escritura que acabei de encontrar ajudar outra pessoa? Eu amo o estudo pessoal! E eu nunca poderia me imaginar dizendo isso antes! Então, eu quero convidar a todos para fazer seu estudo pessoal todos os dias!
